1 Diploma Requirements Introduction to OneFile ABBE Reading List
Level 3 Non-Domestic Energy Assessor Course 3. Pre-course reading - Diploma Requirements Diploma Requirements Introduction to OneFile ABBE Reading List

2 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING
ABBE DipNDEA Level 3. (Diploma in Non Domestic Energy Assessment) Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) covering the ‘Awards’, (1 to 12 credits), ’Certificates’, (13 to 36 credits) and ‘Diplomas’, (37 credits and above). Guided Learning = 205 hours, Private study = 235 hours , this may be full time or part time basis. Unit Title = the task/activity to be undertaken. Level = the complexity of the unit. Credit Value = the number of credits for which the unit qualifies. Purpose and Aim = provides a summary of the content of the unit. Learning Outcomes = what learners must do to meet the requirements of the unit. Assessment Criteria = what learners must demonstrate in order to satisfy the learning outcome of the unit. Unit 1 - Work in a safe, effective and professional manner Element 1.1 Contribute to the maintenance of health, safety and security at work. Element 1.2 Develop and maintain effective working relationships Element 1.3 Conduct work in a professional and ethical manner Unit 2 - prepare for energy assessments of non-dwellings to produce EPC’s or DECs Element 2.1 Agree and confirm instructions to undertake energy assessment Element 2.2 Investigate relevant matters relating to the property Unit 3 - Assess the energy performance of new build non dwellings prior to first occupancy using the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) Element 3.1 Conduct energy assessment of new build non dwellings Element 3.2 Produce Energy performance Certificates Unit 6 - Undertake energy inspections of existing non dwellings using the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) Element 6.1 Inspect existing non dwellings to determine energy performance Element 6.2 Produce Energy Performance Certificate

3 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING

4 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING
Energy assessors will be required to produce a minimum of 3 non-domestic EPCs together with the specified supporting evidence, site notes and appropriate photographs (elevations, work spaces and services plant/ equipment and controls). Two of the three EPCs and reports must be on existing properties but one EPC/ report will be produced from the provided Simulation Building.

5 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING
Carry out THREE non-domestic energy assessments on Level 3 properties. The properties must include at least ONE in each row and column of the property grid on the next slide. . All of the property features, heating systems and potential issues listed within the grid should be covered, either within the THREE property inspections, or by other means - for example, using a computer based case study or via structured professional interview.

6 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING
Non–Domestic Level 3 EPC Property Grid HVAC Types Domestic style construction Low Rise Wide Span (portal frame Medium Rise (3 + Storey’s) Natural ventilation only Comfort cooling (simple system) Heating System (LTHW) This slide gives a breakdown of the time you should spend on the 4 areas of study. ABBE book gives you more guidance and I would recommend you get a copy from ABBE.

7 Issues that make some improvement measures unsuitable
LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING Non – Domestic Level 3 EPC Property Grid Property Features Confirm Present EPC No. Heating System Issues that make some improvement measures unsuitable Solid wall Space heating (electricity) Property condition (eg state of maintenance and repair of walls, floor, cladding) Retrofitted insulation/cladding Space heating (oil or LPG) Building services condition (eg reductions in efficiency due to age, design, maintenance, repair, situation) Different wall constructions & ages Portable heaters where no fixed heating system installed, Previously-installed insulation Extensively glazed areas Domestic Hot Water (DHW) (electricity) Asbestos-containing materials Age of main property and of any extensions Traditional construction Low and Zero Carbon Technologies DHW (oil or LPG) Any other features of the property, or its site/location, which might adversely affect the performance of the recommended improvement, or the building’s performance after improvement Any other features that when incorrectly identified will have a significant detrimental effect on the choice of Energy Efficiency Measures Bi-valent heating systems CHP Waste heat This slide gives a breakdown of the time you should spend on the 4 areas of study. ABBE book gives you more guidance and I would recommend you get a copy from ABBE. All of the property features, heating systems and potential issues in this table should be covered and referenced with your EPC or additional information

8 ABBE Dip NDEA Level 3 LEVEL 3 ENERGY ASSESSOR TRAINING
Four learning outcomes: Conduct energy assessment in a safe, effective and professional manner. Prepare for energy assessment of non-dwellings. Undertake energy inspections of existing Level 3 non-dwellings using the Simplified Building Energy Model (iSBEM). 4. Report on the energy assessment of existing non-dwellings using Simplified Building Energy Model (iSBEM).
