SVD Ladder Mount Katsuro Nakamura Sep. 10, 2015 VXD meeting
2
Ladder Mount Jigs Ladder-mount jig: Sato-san
It will appear after Oct. B2GM, because he is busy for L6 assembly study. Keratherm-attachment jig: Sato-san first prototype by Oct. B2GM We have to check stress on ladder and safety in removing plastic covers of Keratherm.
3
Set-screw fixation Set-screw fixation tool: Florian Already developed.
I will bring it to KEK and test the performance on the ladder mount table.
4
ORIGAMI cooling pipe ORIGAMI cooling pipe bending: Florian
flat bent pipe ORIGAMI cooling pipe bending: Florian Ship flat bent pipes to KEK and PISA will try 3D bending in a couple of months. If it doesn’t work, backup solution is to mount the flat bent pipe. ORIGAMI cooling pipe attachment: Filippo and Florian Tested with the bent pipe after VXD meeting. brought to KEK by B2GM curvature jig idea of 3D bending jig ORIGAMI cooling pipe attachment tool made by Florian

Cabling/piping Cabling/piping: first idea by Suzuki-san and Katsuro
Produce and test cable-strain-reliefs on Endflange Another cable-strain-reliefs on the CFRP cone or Endring prepare the first ide by the middle of Oct., and let’s discuss it on the Gemba meeting. Removal of plastic covers on hybrid cables Also labels should be moved. Cable test with a tester before cable connection The most dangerous part (ladder can be lifted up with the cable.) Some strain relief have to be implemented on EndFlange.
6
Ladder Mount Table Index plate 3D measurement system
Considering cable routing, optimize index plate and fixation mechanism. by Oct. B2GM 3D measurement system change the stroke of movable stages. Division of half-structure Setup rails on table Division test Storages of half-structure (Toru) Above tasks are managed by Suzuki-san and Maki-san. After Oct. B2GM, we have to think about closed dry volume for CO2 cooling test. Thermography camera Holes for a lot of cables Division Tool Index Plate Coordinate Measurement System

Collision test Collision test with Class-C ladders
Collisions of ladders on endring Collisions of adjoining ladders Collisions of different-layers ladders (Collisions during half-structures combining) We’d like to have ladder collision test on Oct. 27 (Wed.), just after BPAC. For the relevant members from all the sites, please arrange your flight and attend the test L3 and L5 assembly sites have to transport 2 class-C ladders to KEK. Container preparation Exportation procedure preparation

Ladder mount procedure
We have to strongly keep in mind the following notices: The number of attachment parts should be as small as possible. Attachment procedure has large risk on ladders. The attachment procedure should be as easy as possible. Above are great lessons from experiences of SVD1 and SVD2 mounting. Steps including destructive risk in ladder mounting 1. Attachment of Ladder-mount adapter on H-shape 2. Attachment of ladder on the ladder-mount jig 3. Ladder mounting on Endring (3.5 Detachment of Ladder-mount adapter???) 4. Fixation of set-screws 5. Cable insertion 6. FOS insertion 7. Fixation of FOS clamp 8. Attachment of Keratherm on APV25 9. Remove of plastic cover on Keratherm 10 Detachment of a couple of FOS clamps 11. ORIGAMI cooling-pipe attachment 12. Fixation of cooling-pipe clamps 13. Attachment of the detached FOS clamps again KEK will try the above proposed procedure with the components by the end of Sep. to know how they are safe or what is risky steps. FOS clamp FOS clamp FOS clamp CO2 clamp The clamps and adapter cannot co-exist together in the current design Ladder-mount adapter

Class-C/D ladders for ladder mount test
Two class-C ladders will be prepared for collision check during ladder mounting. interference between adjoining ladders and adjoining layers Preparation status of class-C ladders: L3: Already has two they have screw holes for mounting. L4: has one class-C ladder, and will produce another one L5: has one class-C ladder, and will produce another one L6: has one class-C ladder, and will produce another one If the H-shape doesn’t have screw holes for adapter, we will glue it on the H-shape. Moreover, it is useful to have class-D ladders for more realistic ladder mount test if they are not necessary on the assembly site. The number of class-D ladders L3: none L4: two L5: one without SLM L6: two or more

(We also need these ladders
Assembly Schedule based on Tanaka-san’s slide on VXD meeting We have to share the VXD assembly table for assemblies of two VXD systems VXD for phase-2 and BEAST VXD for physics run (phase-3) Panel booth in B1 VXD assembly table start: 2016.Jul. start: 2016.Summer BEAST VXD assembly SVD ladder mount Sensors from each group Class-B ladders 2016:summer at latest (We also need these ladders for DESY beam test) end: 2016.Nov. start: 2017.Apr. 5 months test & storage Install BP, BG monitors and PXD end: 2016.Dec Apr. start: 2016.Dec Apr VXD assembly for physics run +Cosmic ray test This schedule is based on backward arrangement of tasks . Status Endring gluing:
1st trial of Endring gluing has been done for both FWD/BWD with 1st half of FWD/BWD mockup Endring STYCAST 2850FT + Catalyst23LV Several issues were found from the 1st trial. Remedies for them were applied on jigs. They are now in production. Better jig flatness Controlled alignment with linear bushings 2nd trial of Endring gluing will be done after the production of the modified jigs finishes. FWD: the middle of Oct. or the begin of Nov. BWD: the middle of Dec. Outer cover gluing: 1st trial of outer cover gluing has been done. Araldite2015 2nd trial of outer cover gluing will be done after reproduction of the FWD-BWD support rod. The end of Nov. FWD-BWD support rod
13
Outer cover gluing We had an exercise of outer cover gluing.
The final feature of VXD can be seen! lack of adhesive We had an exercise of outer cover gluing. Araldite2015 we found control of glue mount is an issue for the gluing.

Endring cooling pipe brazing at Welcon
We would like to glue the end ring to the CFRP cones before the B2GM in February 2016 and start the preparation of the ladder mount. The brazing of CO2 tubes to the end rings should be finished earlier. I like to assign 3 months for the brazing and examination after the production We need to finish contract at beginning of October. We started discussion with Welcon. Sept. 2015 Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. 2016 Feb. Contract and test production Jig production, Brazing, test, and delivery End ring gluing ~3 months

End ring T.Tsuboyama (KEK)
Test brazing in March 2015 They made test pieces by using an hydrogen brazing oven. A copper based brazing solder (JIS Z3262). Process temperature: ~1100 oC. 3 samples were produced Two channels are made with 3 mm separation. The ∅1.7 mm tube from DESY is used. passed the flow test, leak test and pressure test successfully. Channel A Channel B End ring T.Tsuboyama (KEK) 16 April 2015
