10 Throwing clay will not be tolerated
Throwing clay will not be tolerated! It will result in a zero for that day and perhaps removal from the class. Respect others and their artwork Clean up after yourself and others-this is a shared studio space Put tools away, and clean if necessary Wipe down tables and sweep the floors every day! Stay seated until the bell rings at the end of class.

11 Expectations Class discussions and critiques- everyone is expected to participate. 5 pts. Daily work grade Students should be seated when the bell rings. If you need extra work time come in outside of class. Communication Appropriate content: Work must be school appropriate: bongs, pipes, other drug related paraphernalia will be destroyed. Blatant nudity, offensive language/symbols etc. work will be destroyed. You will receive a zero for that project.

12 Media Devices Cell phones, iPad, tablets, etc. could get ruined in the ceramic studio so use them at your own risk. Devices are to be used ONLY as an academic source and at the appropriate times. When in doubt, ask Mrs. Schmidt  Could result in device being taken and/or losing your daily points. SCHOOL DEVICES-chrome books are ONLY to be used for academic purposes at all times. This includes SRP. Keep away from water, and be respectful. Ear buds can be used when I am not presenting/demonstrating

13 Grading Project based class: 80pts. Possible for each piece
20pts. Glazing/Painting points Critiques will be done throughout the year-40pts. Verbal and written Each project has a rubric 3 sketches/planning points + teacher signature Answer the questions once you’ve finished the project Four cut offs for grading: Midterm, end of 1st quarter, midterm, end of semester If not handed in by then, it’s a zero. Medical leave-speak with Mrs. Schmidt

14 Safety Fire drill-outside, up the hill Lockdown-Mr. Deming’s room
Tornado-Hallway by the commons Use all tools appropriately Be aware of if the kilns are running or if projects are still hot. NO screwing around! Causes accidents.

15 Breakage, lost work… Ceramic art is fragile, firing is difficult and full of unknowns, especially in a group situation. It is inevitable that some pieces will be lost, broken, or misfired. While these losses are regrettable they will happen. Students should handle work carefully and as little as possible. Clay teaches many lessons. It’s just clay-things break, get lost, blow up. Air bubbles are your enemy- nothing should be thicker than your thumb! Grades will be determined on a situational basis.

16 Procedures Clay will be on the wedging table.
Only take as much as you need. Return to the bag when you are finished. Please do not run clay/slip down the sinks.
