9 BlackBoard monitoring noted quotes from Patrick and Tim
We found it useful to create OEM "system" objects and add various types of servers into each system, such as: Application servers Database Servers NFS Content Servers       We also used the OEM "Apache HTTP Server" object type  We created  "Services" that point to the above "systems" and added those services to our Dashboard in the Services Monitoring Dashboard. This part of the dashboard tells us at a glance if these servers are up or down.   We created other "service tests" that are of service test type = Web Transaction, and specified some URLs  (provided by Blackboard) that represent various "application health checks".  We created other "service tests" that are of service test type = JDBC SQL Timing that provide us counts of number of unique users within specific time periods.  We created other "systems" and "services" where we monitor specific metrics for a specific server (or system – representing several servers). This is useful for knowing what the current value (and historical values) are for various metrics.  We will be adding more items to our dashboard as we proceed, such as length of time to log in to the application, etc. We plan to continually refine our dashboard over time as we gain experience. 9
