4 SS7H3c Before World War II, Japan was closed to outsiders
The emperor had total control, and the Japanese interpreted him as a God

5 SS7H3c During World War II. Japan lost over 1,000,000 lives
Several Japanese cities were destroyed

6 SS7H3c After World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and began the process of rebuilding the nation

7 SS7H3c Japan wrote a new constitution:
The emperor’s power was taken away, and he became a symbolic leader.

8 SS7H3c The U.S. rebuilt Japan by: Sharing manufacturing knowledge
Providing large sums of money through loans Providing much needed resources for their industries Placing limits on the size of Japan’s military

9 SS7H3c The U.S. occupation of Japan ended in 1952, and the Japanese economy rapidly progressed
