4. What is Wordpress?
WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS) – Software for building Blogs/Websites
Not just any CMS The most popular CMS in the world As of February 2017, WordPress was used by more than 27.5% of the top 10 million websites

5. WordPress is free, Open source software
That means you can go look at all the code and even submit changes to it!

7. How to tell if a site is running WordPress
Right click on a webpage and click on view source
Search (ctrl+f) for “wp-” – look for references to files and folders that start with “wp-”

8. What is WordPress.com?
WordPress.com is a way to create WordPress sites quickly and easily for free
Pros:
Really easy to set up
Lots of WordPress.com features out of the box
Easy maintenance
Cons:
Limit to how much you can customize your site
Can’t install plugins, themes, or edit code

9. Beyond WordPress.com (self hosted)
If you want more control of your site, you can host it yourself
This gives you complete control over your WordPress site so you can:
Edit code
Add plugins and themes
But it also means you have to do more work to set up and maintain it.

10. Create a WordPress.com account
Go to
Click on ‘Get Started’ button
Click on ‘Start With a Blog’ button
Choose the first theme on the screen
Enter ‘tigertech’ and your name (I can’t write this one explicitly) but make sure you pick the free one
Select Free
Enter:

Username
Password
Now your account is made! Good job 😄
Log in to the you signed up with, and click on the link they sent you.

11. Getting around
If you ever get lost in WP, look at the top of your screen - this tells you where you are
My Site - slide out menu that lets you navigate to different parts of your website
Reader - lets you read and discover other people’s Wordpress blogs
Write - this allows you to make a new blog post (more into this later)
Account - account details
Notifications - notifications for the Wordpress blogs you follow

12. Getting around (pt. 2) Let’s see what the ‘My Site’ selection can do:
Look at the left side of the screen, and click ‘My Site’
A menu will pop out:
Site Title - this is what your websites name is
Stats - gives you a bunch of numbers about your site (clicks, visitors)
Plan - says free, because who wants to pay for Wordpress?

13. Blog Posts What is a blog post?
Think of it like a Facebook update - you’re giving the world some kind of status update
Can be about anything!

14. Directions Click on ‘Blog Posts’
shows you all of your blog posts, and lets you edit them
click on edit

15. First Blog Post Let’s tell the world about ourselves
Change the title to your name
Write about something you’re interested in..
“I like tiger tech :D”
“Goku would beat JoJo in a fight”

16. Blog Let’s make a new blog post for today:
On the side of the screen, beside the ‘blog posts’ item, there is a button that says ‘add’
Click that button
For the title, enter ‘Saturday, April 8’
Now we get to have some fun 🙊

17. Make something Click on Write
Click on Title - this will tell people what your blog post is about so they will know if it’s 🔥 or 💩
Click on the blank area below all of the buttons - This is where all of the stuff goes, so take your time here.

18. Pages What is a page? You put one type of thing here
Maybe TV shows, movies, books
Must be similar things

19. Add a page Close out of pop-up window, now click on ‘Pages’
This will give you a list of all of the pages you currently have
Let’s make a new page for our leaders:
Click on the ‘Add’ button beside pages
For the title, enter ‘Our Mentors’
For the link, enter /mentors
This is so we can tell other people how to find this page

20. Sharing is caring How do you showboat your site? Click on that circle
Then click on the rectangle with an arrow coming out of it
This will let you send your website to anyone in the world
