Purpose of Contest Goal of Competition:
To challenge students to demonstrate the innovative use of FAEIS data to ensure data accuracy, address interesting questions, and divulge the importance of quality checks.

Brief Overview of Contest
Undergraduate 10 pages Not including cover page and references, tables and graphs Minimum of 10 references Graduate 20 pages Minimum of 15 references Use Student Contest SAS File

Proposed Judging Criteria
Using the Research Paper Scholarly Criteria, judges will use the following: Research Relevance or Impact (20 total points) Has the question been identified within the areas of life, human, food, veterinary, natural resource and agricultural sciences pertinent to the current needs of industry, academia, or society? Is the research question supported with previous literary works? Research Methods & Technical Quality (40 total points) Have the objectives been clearly defined? Has justification of the use of FAEIS data been provided? Has the paper provided a description of research methods and applicability? Description of statistical methods and evaluation of assumptions? Description of how unique features of the data were adjusted or accounted for ? Has the paper provided a description of design/ approach? Discussion of Results and Conclusions (20 total points) Are the results presented clearly and concisely with appropriate use of tables and graphs? Are the conclusion supported by the result and does it prove or disprove the objectives? Abstract (20 total points) Is the abstract well written and organized with appropriate style, grammar, and spelling? Does the abstract summarize the research study clearly and concisely? This criteria would not be placed on the website or available to the participants, rather the judges would use this form as the grading criteria.

1st place: $1000 2nd place: $750 3rd place: $500 Cash Prize Graduate: 1st place: $1500 2nd place: $1250 3rd place: $1000 First place papers will be featured in the FAEIS Newsletter All placed papers will be featured on the FAEIS Website: Winners must submit posters for presentation at the annual APLU and FAEIS peer panel meeting prior to receiving cash prize.
