Objectives of the Session Students are expected to: 1- read the assignment. 2- name the function of a letter structures. 2- correct five punctuation mistakes in the 2nd paragraph of the letter. 3- write useful expressions used at the the beginning and the end of a letter.

The Assignment E- What have the two women got in common? What is different about them? Similarities Difference They are both sportswomen who excelled in water sports. Natalie still wants to swim faster than before she had the accident. They both lost a limb, but the competed against able-bodied people. Bethany has accepted that she will never fulfill her dream to become a champion.

Useful Language Beginnings : A writer can begin his letter using one of the following structures. - Sorry for not writing earlier but I have been incredibly busy since I got back. - Thank you/ Thanks (so much) for your letter and it was great to hear from you. - Thank you/ Thanks (so much) for having me to stay with you in August. - Thank you/ Thanks (so much) for inviting me to your wedding party next month. - It’s been a very long time since we last met in Cairo. - I hope this letter finds all of you in the best of health and spirits.

Endings: A writer can end his letter using one of the following structures. - That’s all for now. - Hope to hear from you soon. - Give my regards to your parents. - Give my love to your friends and your family members. - Give my love to your mom and dad and loads of love to you too. - I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon. Note how to enclose something: - In a letter: PS I enclose a photo of the three of us. - In an PS I attach of my C.V.

An informal letter, p. 49 Invite students to skim Christelle’s letter and answer the following questions: - Where does Christtelle live? - To whom did Christtelle write this letter? -Why did Christtelle write this letter? A- Students can go through the letter again to match its sentences and the different functions in activity ‘a’ p.49. B - Students can be invited to read the letter again to check their answers. C- Invite students to correct the five punctuation mistakes in the second paragraph. Assignment: student should write a letter to a friend.
