1 Field Study Orientation
Dr. Len Elovitz

2 Purpose To provide you with real experiences that will enhance your probability of becoming a successful supervisor and/or principal (business administrator) To provide real experiences that will help you gain proficiency in the ELCC standards

3 Prerequisites 24 credits Computer Applications Educational Research
Field Application Course Registration per your letter

4 Time requirements (minimum)
2 hours per day 5 days per week 15 weeks During, before and after school

5 Log Documentation All field work
Log sheets are provided on the department website New sheet for each day Number them sequentially (L1, L2 …) Provide a brief description of work done Signed and dated by site supervisor

7 Summary of Time All field work
Spreadsheet is available on the department website Dates should correspond to individual log sheets

9 Required Projects and Activities
Listed on the matrix of activities found on the department website All must be completed by the end of Field II Substitutions - Approval of Kean Supervisor

11 Completing the Matrix List the number(s) of the artifact(s) and/or logs that relate to completion of the project or activity in the 3rd column Your Kean supervisor will rate your proficiency in the next columns The matrix will be returned to you at the end of field I. Copy it and give it to your Kean supervisor at the start of field 2

12 Artifacts Illustrate your experiences
correspondence, memoranda, bulletins, articles, photographs, invoices, budgets, schedules, telephone messages, newsletters, forms, agenda, observations, etc. Your work or about you Number each one (A1, A2 …)

13 Portfolio Cover sheet – List your name, address, phone number, Kean program in which you are matriculated (certification or degree), field site, name and position of site mentor Matrix List of numbered artifacts descriptive phrase--e.g.," 9/23/13 faculty meeting agenda listing candidate as presenter Artifacts in sequential order Logs un sequential order Time summary

14 Portfolio Paper - Binder Electronic – CD or Flash Drive
One Continuous file for logs Affidavit from site supervisor

15 Electronic Logs One file
Affidavit from site supervisor - I certify that the logs contained in this file are an accurate account of work performed under my supervision.

16 Action Research Project
Solve a problem identified at the field site First 3 chapters should be completed in Research course by the end of Field I Remainder finished by the end of Field II Full report handed in with portfolio Not required for certification or SBA candidates

17 Field Supervision Site supervisor provides day-to-day supervision of your work Course instructor will arrange for a site visitation to meet with you and your supervisor Course instructor reserves the right to appear unannounced to monitor your work based on the Course Information Form

18 Course Information Sheet
Can be found on department website Fill out and return to Kean supervisor ASAP Schedule will be used for visitation We’ll try for your prep - if not lunch Be certain to list your extension, if any; Be certain to provide your cell phone number list exact site address so it can be entered into GPS Directions should be from a major highway

20 Evaluation Site supervisor’s evaluation Experiences reflected on logs
Quality of completion of papers and activities as represented in your artifacts Grade will be assigned by Kean supervisor.

21 Business Administrators
No standards exist Portfolio will include projects decided upon between you and field supervisor No action research You have to take comps

22 Final Words We know that this is a lot of work, but so is being an administrator You should be given increasing responsibility as your site supervisor’s trust grows Problems should be brought to the attention of your Kean instructor Remember you must apply once again for Field II Stay positive and have fun
