Help! 200 Reservists Provide essential services to the counties
Purpose is to assist the counties 200 Reservists -Not enough in the instance of catastrophic disaster -Need them from every county Provide essential services -know how to get around local communities -may know of disaster-prone areas -cuts down on the amount of county resources that have to be used because allows us to get there quicker -may know local leaders and local person Purpose is to assist the counties -The main goal of the program is to assist people in need. When counties become overwhelmed, our goal is to provide any assistance they need to help their citizens. (Stress it’s not an us against them mentality. We want ‘us’ to be ‘them’) -The absolute best way to do this is by having local citizens, with the full backing of the state, to provide these services to their neighbors. Example of people from Lyon County knowing my father and are more apt to take help from him than two strangers walking down the street. -This is important because it further puts recovery into the hands of the counties and allows less interference from the state. -Example of people from county doing a better job than people from state (I know the roads in Tallahassee that are prone to flooding. If I see that Tennessee Street is flooded, I have a good idea that Franklin Road is going to be flooded. Did people who are not from Tallahassee know that?) -They know where to go, where everything is. It keeps DEM from having to interfere with It also allows the county direct contact with FEMA.
