2 About young Louis Louis was born August at the Palace of Versailles. He was given the nickname Duc de Berry at birth. He had six other siblings and was the third oldest. He was considered the Dolphin of France.

3 His Family Childhood As a child his family neglected him in favor of his prized elder brother, Louis Duc de Bourgogne. Louis was very healthy unlike his elder brother Louis, who died at the age of nine. He enjoyed hunting with his grandfather, Louis XV.

4 His Studies As a child Louis was very shy and focused on his studies.
He excelled in Latin, history, geography, and astronomy. Later he became flaunt in English and Italian language. He eventually became became a well educated child.

5 Louis XVI Hobbies As well as having a passion for hunting with his grandfather he found other hobbies to occupy his time when he was not studying. He enjoyed playing rough with his younger bothers when ever they would join in on the fun. From a early age Louis wanted to work on perfecting his locksmithing skills, but it was found to be useful to a child never mind a potential king.

6 The Broken Family of France
Louis father , Louis the Dolphin of France died of Tuberculosis on December His mother never recovered from Louis father’s death and died from depression and stress, March Later Louis grandfather XV died and left Louis XVI the thrown.

7 A New Royal Family Before assuming the thrown at the age of fifteen he was forced to marry fourteen year old Marie Antonia of Austria, on May After the marriage came a huge public outcast of the royal couple. Eventually the two became closer to one another the older they became. After not being able to have any children Marie Antoinette gave birth to her first child Marie Charlotte and three more in the years to follow.

8 King Louis XVI in Power As a young ruler Louis felt unqualified for the job. At the beginning of his absolute monarchy he stated that he “must always consult public opinion; it is never wrong.” He even tried to reinstate parliament to win over his fellow noble men and subjects. Most of his attempts to save France failed and his power started to weaken.

9 A Weak Monarchy When the Third Estates general ruled France as a National Assembly it became the base of the French Revolution. King Louis tried to control it by calling in the National Constituent of Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath. The majority of the executive representatives sided to elect representatives of the peoples nation. Thus begins the French Revolution.

10 King Louis’s Last Days After being forced out of the families royal palace by their subjects in revolt against them they were sent to Paris. There Louis’s power was limited to almost nothing, he nor his family no longer had a say in politics. When his family was caught fleeing to Austria to get away from Paris’s laws of what they considered immortality they were caught and brought back. When brought back to Paris Louis XVI was sent to court for leaving his people behind and fleeing to Austria. He was found guilty and sent to the stake. King Louis XVI of France died January

12 A New Royal Birth Young Louis XVI was born on August 1754.
He was born at the Palace of Versailles Marie Antoinette was born November She was born in Vienna Austria.

13 A Royal Wedding King Louis was forced to marry Marie Antoinette to maintain his authority as king when he was only fifteen years old. She was sent there by carriage when she was fourteen years of age. They were pronounced husband and wife May

15 A New Ruler King Louis XVI was only 19 years old when he took over the thrown with his wife. Both felt heavily responsible for the people of France and there new kingdom. Although King Louis felt unqualified for becoming the new King Of France he had an obligation his family.

16 Inside Their Palace Their home was filled with antique artifacts, famous paintings, and sculptures.

17 Their Expenses Both King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette used a lot of the tax payers money. As they got older they became more in dept. Although they enjoyed living in luxury the people of France became more intolerant with them.

18 In Power Many found that King Louis was shy and unsure in his actions.
He was not looked up to by all his fellow peers. His subjects began to become more independent and grew farther apart of the their Kingdom. His power eventually started to weaken and his subjects wanted answers.

19 Figureheads Some remember King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette as one of the greatest absolute rulers in history. They were considered figureheads in France that many looked. A riddle was made up after him called “Jack and Jill went up the hill”

20 Subjects vs. The King Marie Antoinette started to spend tax payers money and never returned any of that money back to the people Eventually her subjects grew hungry and tired and became angry All of King Louis’s subjects ate bread , because it was the cheapest and kept all full. The subjects lead a revolt which forced the royal family to Paris.

21 The Execution of King Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette
After the royal family was caught fleeing to Austria they were brought back. King Louis went on trial and was found guilty. He was sent to the stake in a closed carriage. Marie Antoinette was sent to the stake in an open carriage for everyone to see. Their children were taken away and beat to death as a punishment for being apart of the royal blood and thrown.
