4 INTRODUCTION: In today’s study, the preacher is going to show us the deeds of Old Testament heroes whose actions flowed from their faith in God.

5 INTRODUCTION:  Faith in God’s promises (vs. 20-22)
 Faith in God’s rewards (vs )  Faith in God during trials (vs. 29)

6 Hebrews 11:20-23 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshiped, leaning upon the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

7 Hebrews 11:24-26 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

8 Hebrews 11:27-29 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible. 28 Through faith he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. 29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

9 INTRODUCTION: Living by faith means believing God’s promises, valuing His rewards over anything the word has to offer, and trusting Him during trials.

10 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshiped, leaning upon the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

11 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
Isaac’s Blessing (v. 20) 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

12 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
Although he didn’t want to do things according to God’s plan, in the end, Isaac blessed Jacob by faith; the Lord’s will was upheld and His plan was accomplished overcoming Isaac’s reluctance and resistance.

13 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
Jacob’s Blessing (v. 21) 21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

14 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
Jacob crosses his arms and gives Ephraim the blessing of the first-born and Manasseh the blessing of the second-born. Jacob understood that the Lord chooses whom He will choose.

15 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
The spiritual children of Abraham also receive a blessing – the Holy Spirit, who causes us to be born again, regenerates us, gives us new life, and all the spiritual blessings which God has promised Abraham.

16 FAITH BELIEVES IN GOD’S PROMISES (Heb. 11:20-22)
Joseph’s Dying Declaration (v. 22) 22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

19 FAITH VALUES CHRIST’S REPROACH MORE THAN THE WORLD’S REWARD (Heb
By Faith Moses Was Hid (vs. 23) 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. He was born into a believing family.

20 By Faith Moses Chose to be Identified with God’s People (vs. 24-26)
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

21 By Faith Moses Chose to be Identified with God’s People (vs. 24-26)
He identified with the Hebrew slaves, not the king’s household where he had been raised.

22 By Faith Moses Chose to be Identified with God’s People (vs. 24-26)
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ …

23 By Faith Moses Chose to be Identified with God’s People (vs. 24-26)
He decided that all the treasures of Egypt could not begin to compare with the privilege of bearing the reproach of Christ.

24 By Faith Moses Feared God Rather Than Pharaoh (vs. 27)
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible. His respect for God was so great that he had no fear of man.

25 By Faith Moses Obeyed God’s Commandment (vs. 28)
28 Through faith he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. He trusted what the Lord said.

26 FAITH TRUSTS GOD’S PROVIDENCE DURING TESTS & TRIALS (Heb. 11:29)
29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. Faith trusts God in trials and God delivers those who trust in Him.

27 CONCLUSION: It is not the quality of our faith that saves us; it is the object of our faith – Jesus, God’s Word, God’s promise, and His gospel.
