2 Acme Robotic Engineers
You have been hired by Acme Robotics as Robotic Engineers to work on the multiple projects. During the school year, you will be building and designing various robots to complete specific missions. ©MLBrunk

3 Mission 1: Building Your Robot
Your first mission is to build a basic robot using the blueprints supplied by Lego MINDSTORMS. Where can you find these blueprints? When you first open up your Lego MINDSTORMS App on your computer, the screen at the right will appear. ©MLBrunk

4 On the far left, scroll down to where it says “Robot Educator”.
Move your curser to the next column that is just to the right and find “Building Instructions”. Click on “Building Instructions” and then click on “Driving Base”. ©MLBrunk

5 You will see the word “Open” at the far right
You will see the word “Open” at the far right. Click on this and follow all 46 steps to design a basic robot to get you started on the first mission. ©MLBrunk

6 Building Tip #1 The Blue box will tell you the part of the build that you are working on and what it will look like when you have completed the next few steps. The Grey box will tell you what pieces you will be using. There is a number next to each piece and that indicated the quantity of each piece that is required for this step. Building Note: If 2 students are working on building this robot, it is a good idea to have one person find the necessary pieces while the other student puts the robot together. Students should change positions periodically. ©MLBrunk

7 Building Tip #2 When you see the blue box with the 2 arrows in them, this means you need to turn your robot. Do not turn the robot again until you see the arrows again. ©MLBrunk

8 Building Tip #3 If there is a number in blue next to a Lego piece (as in the picture at the right) that indicates the length of the Lego piece. For example this piece has a length of 8. Lengths are measured in hole lengths. If you look in your Lego box, you will see a straight white piece with 15 holes. This is a good piece to help you measure the lengths of required pieces. ©MLBrunk

10 Building Tip #4 When you are building your robot make sure that you hold your robot the exact same way as shown in the diagram. If you discover that your robot does not look like one in the diagram, turn back a page or two and compare your robot. See if you can find your mistake before asking your teacher. You can also compare your robot to another team’s robot and see if you can find your mistake. ©MLBrunk

11 Charged and Ready to Go! When you finish building your robot, check to make sure it is charged and ready for your next mission. Now look at the battery level. If it is low, you should charge it overnight. First turn on your robot using the center button. ©MLBrunk

12 Communicate with each other. Listen to each other’s ideas.
You will have approximately 2 days to complete this first mission. Remember these rules as you complete this mission: Be Positive! Work together as a team. Communicate with each other. Listen to each other’s ideas. Help other teams. Fail Often Don’t Judge Have Fun!!!!! ©MLBrunk
