INTRO PARGRAPH AND THESIS (10 pts)
Your thesis statement and opening paragraph is worth 10 points.
You present a clear and original argument, with some explanation.
Contextualize the topic into a larger picture of history or of other issues
MAIN BODY PARAGRAPHS (60 pts) – this is about four full pages of writing
Your argument is NOT factual. It’s an argument backed by fact and explanation
You provide evidence to prove your thesis correct. Over and over, you refer back to the thesis.
EVERY paragraph starts with a statement of opinion that supports thesis.
Most of the paragraphs of main body present evidence and explain how it proves your thesis correct. All paragraphs should have citable evidence, but consist mainly of your discussion explaining how that evidence proves your argument.
SOURCES (20pts)
EVERY paragraph has at least one source used as evidence, cited by source name
Source list at end has at least five sources (separate page, MLA format)
CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH (10 pts)
Finish up with a synthesis discussion. Present a topic similar to, but unrelated to your argument.
Explain similarities; show how this other topic clarifies your argument.
Total: 100 pts.

20. Hints for a good Thesis essay
INTRO PARGRAPH AND THESIS
Choose your argument carefully
Refer back to it in some form often throughout your essay
This is the whole purpose of this essay: to prove this argument correct
MAIN BODY PARAGRAPHS
For each factual evidence that would somehow support your argument, you can have a separate paragraph
Introduce the fact in the first or second sentence, then make your statement of fact, and cite it like this (Jacoby, 2017)
Then, spend the remainder of the paragraph explaining in YOUR thoughts how it proves / supports your argument
SOURCES
I’m expecting that EVERY paragraph has citable info, which NEVER comes from Wikipedia, or anything like that
As a 6th page, include a source list (at least five sources, MLA format)
CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH
What this does is show analysis and significance of your topic, by showing it’s not isolated in time.
