What Can Lodges Do To Keep The Grand Lodge Insurance Program Strong?
Continue to contact Spectrum Insurance Group prior to lodge activities involving special events. Inspect lodge buildings regularly for general maintenance issues BEFORE a more costly claim occurs. (Roofs; Furnaces; Hot Water Heaters; Gutter Clogs) Report any potential claim activity timely to Spectrum Insurance Group. Insure buildings and contents to appropriate replacement cost value as best as possible.
6
Slips, Trips and Falls Slips, trips, and falls make up 80% of our general liability claims from lodges. Many different hazards: parking lots, entrances, stairways, slippery floors
7
Parking Lot Tips Parking lots should be well-maintained and free from large holes, cracks, and divots Perform all necessary maintenance to keep parking lots as free from snow, water, and ice as possible by shoveling, salting, and sanding Use logs to keep track of how often maintenance is performed, what was done, and who performed it
8
Indoor Hazards Entrances are highly trafficked areas
Monitor entrances for wet floors and use rugs as needed Entrances should be accessible for walkers and wheelchairs
9
Indoor Hazards Routinely monitor stairways for slippery conditions
Check floors for spilled drinks or other hazards
10
Volunteer Safety Many members volunteer their time to help out around the lodge Volunteers need to follow the same safety procedures as employees Areas and exits that are for lodge members only need to be clearly marked
