3. What is GATE?
Gifted education (also known as Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Talented and Gifted (TAG), or G/T) is a broad term for special practices, procedures, and theories used in the education of children who have been identified as gifted or talented.

4. What does it mean to be Gifted?
“Gifted individuals are those who demonstrate outstanding levels of aptitude (defined as an exceptional ability to reason and learn) or competence (documented performance or achievement in top 10% or rarer) in one or more domains. Domains include any structured area of activity with its own symbol system (e.g., mathematics, music, language) and/or set of sensorimotor skills (e.g., painting, dance, sports).”

5. Some Do’s and Don’ts For Gifted Kids Set boundaries
Provide intellectual challenges
Don’t over-schedule
Don’t focus on the challenge
Do give compliments
Don’t hold your child up as an example
Demonstrate how to prioritize
Tell your gifted child about their IQ

6. Etiwanda GATE Vision
Ensure we are identifying the top 2-3 percent of students in the district.
Two steps to earning GATE status:
1. Eligibility for CoGAT testing is 3.75 GPA in first & second trimesters
2. Passing the CoGAT with 90th percentile composite score or mastering (score at least 128 in verbal, non verbal, or mathematical)
Primary goal is to provide differentiation in the classroom to create challenging learning experiences for gifted students.
Teachers will plan activities for WIN time (Universal Access)

Independent Study Project:
Meetings will be held Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45 in room B5.
Please make plans for your child to be picked up promptly.
We will have a permission slip for you to complete and return.
