1 JOURNAL Freewrite

2 Discuss your Podcast with your Group
Discuss any insights you have about your Podcast with your group: Add or revise to your “Non-Negotiables” and “Stylistic Choice” Posters

3 Design your own assignment and rubric:
Identify 3 Non-Negotiables and 2 Stylistic Choices that your group wants to develop in their own writing Record in the left column Decide how you will know if the writer is successful. What does advanced look like? How is that different than proficient? Than emerging? 3 (Advanced) 2 (Proficient) 1 (Emerging) Non-Negotiable #1 Non-Negotiable #2 Non-Negotiable #3 Style Choices #1 Style Choices #2

4 Designing a Rubric Pro-Tips
Start here: Start with the middle column– The middle column should reflect that the student DOES the skill correctly. Example Skill: Interview 2: The writer conducts an interview with relevant questions 3 (Advanced) 2 (Proficient) 1 (Emerging) Non-Negotiable #1 INTERVIEW The writer conducts an interview with relevant questions that move the piece of writing forward The writer conducts and interview with relevant questions The writer’s interview questions do not serve the purpose of the piece. Might be confusing/off topic Non-Negotiable #2 Non-Negotiable #3 Style Choices #1 Style Choices #2 Then Move over: 3 is going to be more artful The writer conducts an interview with relevant questions that move the piece of writing forward 1 is going to be a less successful attempt The writer’s interview questions do not serve the piece. Are confusing or off topic

5 YOUR TASKS FOR THE DAY: #1: Finalize the Rubric
Complete the Rubric with your Group (don’t be afraid to ask questions, I’m here to help) The Rubric must be checked off by me by the end of class– I’ll make copies and upload them #2: Start Planning your Assignment If Journalism: interview questions? Event or occurrence planning? Tone? Purpose? If Personal Essay: What moment? What is the meaning of this moment? How will you convey this? Tone? Purpose?
