2. The Elizabethan Belief in Witches During the Elizabethan era people blamed unexplainable events as the work of witches. There were frequent outbreaks of the deadly Black Death (Bubonic Plague) for which there was no cure. The fear and anger about this terrible disease had to be directed at someone - witches were the obvious target. When people died from terrible diseases, when animals died, when there was a bad harvest, when houses were burnt down in fires even when foods curdled - witches were the obvious targets. There were 270 Elizabethan witch trials of 247 were women and only 23 were men! Those accused of witchcraft were generally: Old/ Poor / Unprotected/ Single women or widows (many kept pets for company - their 'familiars')

3. From the novel ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley
His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips.

4. From the novel ‘Dracula’ by Bram Stoker
JONATHAN HARKER’S DESCRIPTION OF COUNT DRACULA-as he attempts to escape Castle Dracula (P51)    I knew I must search the body for the key, so I raised the lid and laid it back against the wall; and then I saw something which filled my very soul with horror. There lay the Count, but looking as if his youth had been half-renewed, for the white hair and moustache were changed to dark iron-grey; the cheeks were fuller, and the white skin seemed ruby-red underneath; the mouth was redder than ever, for on the lips were gouts of fresh blood, which trickled from the corners of the mouth and ran over the chin and neck. Even the deep, burning eyes seemed set amongst swollen flesh, for the lids and pouches underneath were bloated. It seemed as if the whole awful creature were simply gorged with blood; he lay like a filthy leech, exhausted with his repletion. I shuddered as I bent over to touch him, and every sense in me revolted at the content; but I had to search, or I was lost.

5. Ghosts
Some believe ghosts exist because they have some unfinished business in their lives:
Murder -- especially those that remain unsolved.  Sometimes the ghost will not move on until the murder is solved.
Accidents -- Sudden death from accidents such as car wrecks, drownings, falls and fires. 
Suicide --  The pain and torment that a suicide victim feels will often cause them to remain here in ghostly form.
Lack of a proper burial -- If the spirit believes he or she did not receive what they believe is a proper burial, they may remain.
Broken hearts -- Much like suicide, the pain and torment felt by someone who dies while mourning a lost love or a family member may cause them to remain earthbound.

6. Halloween Horror Movies May Cause Emotional Problems In Young Children
(Science Daily, Oct 3rd, 2006) Toddlers and young children who watch violent movies, including Halloween horror films, television shows or video games may be more likely to develop anxiety, sleep disorders, and aggressive and self-endangering behaviour. There have even been cases of violence in the home that followed children playing violent video games. "Very young children are unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy," says Dr. Schechter. The person may become afraid of the dark, or cling to the companion while sleeping. He/she may cry, scream, tremble, shake or even nauseate, if the horror film has really scared him/her. Fear of losing control, fear of dying are also associated with the horror movies.
