2 DANIEL 2:1-11 Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams
Spirit is troubled to know the dream Demands dream and explanation Only the gods Consequence and reward 1. Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams – Sleep left him. Same dream many times? 2. Spirit is troubled to know the dream – King calls all of his wise men: Magicians Enchanters Sorcerers Chaldeans 3. Demands dream and explanation Chaldeans request the dream specifics in order for interpretation “Chaldean dream books” – cover every possible eventuality King – “the thing is gone from me” VS “command is firm” (v8) King accuses them of lying and corrupt words King – if you can tell me the dream, then I know you can interpret it 4. Only the gods – Chaldeans respond that no man on earth can explain No King or leader has ever requested such a thing Only the gods can explain & they don’t live with man 5. Consequences and Reward Consequences – cut in pieces, houses made into dunghill (destroyed) Reward – gifts, rewards and great honor

3 DANIEL 2:12-25 Destroy all the wise men Daniel and Arioch
The mercies of God Daniel Acknowledges God Destroy not the wise men 1. Destroy all the wise men – King’s decree included Daniel & friends 2. Daniel and Arioch – Captain of the kings guard Arioch was looking for Daniel & friends to kill them Daniel questions with council and wisdom (why is the king doing this?) Daniel requests the king for time (for interpretation) 3. The mercies of God – Daniel returns home and informs his friends Together desire the mercies of God (pray) for secret & not perish 4. Daniel acknowledges God – Secret revealed to Daniel in a vision at night Name of God is forever Wisdom and might are His Changes times and seasons Removes and sets up kings Gives wisdom to the wise & knowledge to those with understanding Reveals the deep and secret things Knows what is in the darkness & light lives in Him Gives God the glory for the revelation of the dream and interpretation 5. Destroy not the wise men – Daniel tells Arioch not to kill wise men but rather take him to the king

Breast & arms - silver Belly & thigh - brass Legs of iron Feet - iron & clay mix Stone cut out without hands 1. Daniel & the King – How does Daniel respond to the King’s question regarding the dream and interpretation? Not from wise men but “there is a God in heaven which revealeth secrets” 2. The dream Shall be in the latter days (v28) Dreamt of a great statue 3. Head of fine gold 4. Breast & arms - silver 5. Belly & thigh - brass 6. Legs of iron 7. Feet - iron & clay mixture 8. Stone cut out without hands Cut out of the mountain (v45) Stone hit the statue on the feet and broke apart all Wind carried away broken pieces like chaff Stone became a great mountain - filled the whole earth

5 DANIEL 2:36-45 1st - Babylon 2nd - Inferior kingdom
3rd - Kingdom that will rule over all the earth 4th - Kingdom that will break & crush. Mixed - strong & broken Stone - Everlasting Kingdom 1st - Babylon - “You are the head of gold” God has given the kingdom, power, strength, glory Rule over men, beasts and bird Babylonian Bricks “I am Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the world” 2nd - Inferior kingdom 3rd - Kingdom that will rule over all the earth 4th - Kingdom that will break & crush. Mixed - Strong & broken Strong as iron, break into pieces and subdue Feet mixture - divided kingdom Strength of iron - Partly strong, partly broken Stone - Everlasting Kingdom (stand forever) In the days of those kings Never be destroyed Sovereignty not be left to another people Break into pieces and consume all Kingdoms

Kings reaction ● To Daniel - King fell on his face, worshiped him, offered oblation & incense ● To God - King praises God - God of gods (top god), Lord of kings, revealer of secrets 2. King’s reward - Made Daniel great, many gifts, rule over province of Babylon & chief governor over all the wise men 3. Daniel’s Request - Appoint 3 friends over the affairs of the province of Babylon

Babylon (Dan 2:38) Break/Crush Divided Inferior Church 33AD (Col 1:13) Rule all earth Everlasting (Mat 16:28 NASB) ""Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."" (Acts 2:15-17 NASB) ""For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; {16} but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: {17} 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT UPON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;" (Isa 2:2-3 NASB) "Now it will come about that In the last days, The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. {3} And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways, And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem." Babylon Break/Crush Divided Inferior Stone Rule all earth Everlasting (Mat 3:1-2 NASB) "Now in those days John the Baptist came^, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, {2} "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."" (Acts 1:6-8 NASB) "And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" {7} He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; {8} but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."" KINGDOMS OF DANIEL 2 ○ Timeframe – Last days (v28), in the days of those kings (v44), in the future (v45) ○ Beginning – 1st kingdom is Babylon (v38) ○ End – Last kingdom (Everlasting kingdom) ○ Has Christ’s kingdom come? ● Is 2:2-4 – Will come in the last days ● Mt 3:1-2 – John the Baptist – Kingdom of heaven is at hand (near) ● Mt 16:28 – Not taste death till kingdom ● Acts 1:6-8 – Restoring the kingdom to Israel? ● Acts 2:15-17 – Pentecost, Peter quotes Joel - now are the last days ○ God poured out His Spirit on Pentecost (33 AD) ○ Heb 1:2 - Spoken to us in these last days in Jesus ● Col 1:13-14 – Christians are in the Kingdom (church) ○ Christ’s Kingdom has come ○ 1 Cor 15: Christ will rule until death is abolished, return kingdom to God ○ Who was the ruling Empire when Christ’s kingdom came? (Roman) ○ There have only been 4 world Empires between 605 BC and 33 AD See next slide (maps of the 4 empires)
