Prepositional Phrases
Includes a preposition, object of preposition, and any modifiers of that object. DO NOT confuse a prepositional phrase beginning with to – to you or to home – with an infinitive, such as to be or to remind. Prepositional Phrases Examples: Mrs. Lowrance ran from the insane clown. (the noun clown is the object of the preposition from) The clown with the red balloon stalked quickly away. (the noun balloon is the object of the preposition with)

A prepositional phrase that modifies a noun or pronoun
An adjective phrase tells what kind or which one Adjective Phrases Examples: The boy with the green hoodie was Jonny Jones. (which boy?) A folder of notes, homework, and essays was left on the commons floor. (what folder?)

A prepositional phrase that modifies an adjective, verb, or adverb
An adverb phrase tells when, where, why, how or to what extent (how much, how long, or how far). Adverb Phrases Examples: In the bus she began to cry. (Began where?) Alex was extremely happy about the pay raise. (Happy to what extent?) She worked on Tuesday. (Worked when?)
