Starter Stefan, aged 12 wrote a set of guidelines he though children should live by. Put these into the order, you think, are most important: Don’t hurt people or animals Don’t steal Always tell the truth Don’t fight Don’t damage other people’s property Don’t be greedy or selfish Take care of the environment Take care of your body Respect other peoples’ opinions and beliefs Stand up for what you think is right – don’t let anyone bully you.

The Right Thing? Read the school essay “The Right Thing” written by the main character in Robert Leeson’s novel “Red, White and Blue”. Discuss what he says about the difficulty of deciding when to tell and when not to tell. Task Discuss in your groups whether you think people are right to despise those who speak up? Discuss the view that it often takes more courage to tell than not to tell

What should you do if? Study the list of situations and write a paragraph (between 3 and 5 sentences) about would you think you should do in each case. 1. You see someone taking a chocolate bar from the corner shop without paying. Would it make a difference if you knew it was: Someone who comes from a poor family; someone you know is hungry at school because they often get no breakfast; Someone who gets lots of pocket money? You see someone tampering with someone else’s bike in the bike sheds. Would it make a difference what they were doing, for example Letting down the tyres Cutting the brake cable Loosening the saddle? You see someone getting punished for something you know they didn’t do. Would it make a difference if: You knew who really did it? You were the person who did it?
