This booklet was produced by NEISD counselors for NEISD students and parents. Make sure you read through this booklet as we discuss some of the key points today.

5 Options After High School
WORK--Some students will enter the workforce immediately after high school Kuder Navigator--a comprehensive online career planning system. See handout. MILITARY SERVICE--Joining the military enables you to serve your country and begin earning a salary right away Can earn your college degree while serving Gov’t will pay a large part of college expenses after you leave the service CAREER/TRADE/TECHNICAL TRAINING--Attend career specific training COLLEGE--Begin learning about a particular field of study to pursue more education and prepare for a lifetime career. 2 Year or 4 year options

Gathering Information and Choosing Likely Schools College Visits: 2 per school are excused Visit the GO Center--Mr. Murrell is an excellent resource to learn more about colleges Information in the GO Center Career/College searches College Admission requirements FAFSA Apply Texas/Common App Scholarship Information College Entrance Exams Plan to take the SAT/ACT during the Spring of your Junior Year Fee Waivers TSI--Texas Success Initiative--designed to help university or college determine if you are ready for college level coursework in reading, writing and mathematics.

8 Other Assessments ASVAB--Multiple aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. EOCs--All students are required to pass 5 EOCs in order to proceed to graduation English I Algebra I Biology I English II US History

10 Dual Credit Courses Take college classes while in high school for FREE!! NEISD offers numerous dual credit courses. These courses count for both high school and college credit. College credits generally transfer to any state public college. Dual credit application process begins in January/February time frame. Students must complete the Apply Texas Application process. Students must meet certain requirements to be eligible for dual credit. Huge opportunity to take advantage of for FREE. Save College Funds

Students can challenge themselves by taking AP courses: AP English Language III AP Biology AP US Government AP Statistics AP English Literature IV AP Chemistry AP Economics AP US History AP Environmental Systems AB AP Physics AP Design Portfolio AP Calculus AP Calculus BC AP Psychology AP Drawing Portfolio AP Spanish Language AP World History AP Latin AP French Language AP Human Geography AP Music Theory AP German Language AP Computer Science A Take advantage of what you have learned in AP Courses:  EARN COLLEGE CREDIT by taking the AP exam in May This could mean students would not have to take the course in college or it could count for an elective.
