Keywords: cancer, aging, calcium, functional genomics General Information: Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) calcium ion channels have distinct and significant roles in normal as well as in disease states. Differential expressional pattern of TRP genes appear to have diagnostic and/or treatment potential in vascular aging and cancer development. Functional genomics data from our ongoing study show that altered expression pattern of these genes may be operational in phenotypic switch of “cancer stem cells” into tumor cells. Therefore, drug-resistant cancer cells could be specifically targeted based on their TRP expression profiles.
