60th Anniversary University College Nottingham was awarded a Royal Charter in 1948 – establishing the University of Nottingham The last 60 years has seen extensive growth & development – we now have students and 6500 Staff, working and studying at 6 campuses in 3 countries Always highly regarded – a UK top 10 and global top 70 University* University College Nottingham opened in 1881 & moved to what is now University Park campus in 1928. Student numbers include over in UK – 23% of these international (from 143 nations) & 20% PG Other facts & figs: £125m research income ; 2 Nobel prizes; Times Higher “University of the Year” … * SJTU & Times Higher rankings

3 From Oct 2008 we will have a new Vice-Chancellor
Professor David Greenaway (Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and PVC for Research & Knowledge Transfer) The Vice-Chancellor is the principal academic and administrative officer of the University. He chairs the Management Board, which consists of six Pro Vice-Chancellors, the Registrar and Chief Financial Officer. David succeeds Sir Colin Campbell, who has been in post since 1988, and will be Nottingham’s 6th VC. David Greenaway took up his first position at Nottingham in 1987 as Head of the Department of Economics. He served as a PVC from & , and was closely involved with the development of the University's Jubilee Campus.

4 Developing our campuses
£50million Jubilee Campus established in 1999 – home to School of Education, CS & IT & Nottingham University Business School. Aspire – designed by Ken Shuttleworth's world-renowned Make Architects – tubular steel lattice - 60m tall – Britains tallest free-standing work of public art (nearly 15m taller than the Statue of Liberty) - £800k anonymous donation. Further development underway at Jubilee over next 10 yrs – including new £200m Innovation Park At SB Campus, Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine & Science opened in Sept 2006 – first new vet school in the UK for over 50 years.

5 A Global University University of Nottingham Ningbo China
Malaysia campus – opened in 2000; now has over 2700 students from 50 countries; offers wide range of courses including Engineering, Biosciences, Business & Management Studies, Computer Science, Education & Pharmacy. China Campus admitted first students in 2004 – first foreign University to establish a campus in PR China - facilities for 4000 students. Engineering first intake in 2008. University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Semenyih

6 2000 undergraduate & 600 postgraduate students
Engineering courses at Nottingham are thriving + new programmes established BEng/MEng Chemical, Civil, Design, Electrical & Electronic, Environmental, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Product Design MSc Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical, Power Electronics Supported by around 130 academic staff. Mechanical – new for 2008 entry, with specialisms in Aerospace, Automotive, Bioengineering, Manufacturing and Materials. Alumni scholarships – 10% reduction in fees for all overseas graduates (see fliers). 2000 undergraduate & 600 postgraduate students

Prof David Greenaway: “Our alumni community is hugely important to the future prosperity of the University.
