Problems Faced by Washington: Solutions Proposed: Formation of Government: How would the Constitution be carried out? 3 Branches Executive Branch: How would the President carry out all of his duties? Cabinet Cabinet are advisors to the president: part of the unwritten constitution Hamilton : Sec of treasury Jefferson : sec of state Knox : sec of war Debt: The new nation faced a large debt from the Revolutionary War. Repay the Debt National Bank Creation Protective Tariff Whiskey Tax Repay debt: federal government will pay off all state debts National bank creation: Congress uses elastic clause to pay off the state debts… federal government in charge Protective tariff: tax on goods coming into the US … makes American manufacturing cheaper Whiskey tax : tax on whiskey… whiskey rebellion by unhappy farms .. Washington puts down the rebellion showing the power and might of the constitution

The new nation faced a large debt from the American Revolution. As Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton proposed a four-part program to establish the nation’s finances on a solid basis.
