Poster 1. Leadership Development Programme : Leading Cultures of Research and Innovation in Clinical Teams Background The NHS Constitution is explicit in its commitment to ‘innovation and the promotion, conduct & use of research’. Delivering on this commitment is linked directly to improved patient outcomes & quality of care, greater efficiency & resource utilisation & is predicated on a workforce equipped with the requisite skills working within a culture actively engaged with research and innovation. Evidence based models of building capability in research and innovation (R&I) acknowledge the need for a multi-faceted approach at the level of individuals, organisations, and environments. Current models of leadership emphasise the need for a more diffuse and collective style of leadership where cultures are co-created by all in the organisation. A programme of work undertaken by NHS R&D NW with service leaders identified a strong commitment to the integration of R&I into clinical teams but significant limitations in knowledge regarding the R&I landscape and policy agendas and lack of personal confidence in providing leadership on this agenda. The focus of this proposal was therefore to pilot and evaluate the Leading Cultures of Research and Innovation (LCRI) programme focused on service leaders across a range of clinical professions, administrative, managerial and support service staff
