The literal translation of carpe means “to pick, pluck, pluck off, cull, crop, or gather”. The poet Ovid, however, used the phrase in the context “to enjoy, seize, use, make use of”. stop and smell the roses seize the day have no concern for the future enjoy the pleasures of the moment to take possession of by force or at will life is short Carpe diem has influenced and motivated people through the centuries to not worry about tomorrow but to take chances today. I can visually communicate the idea of “seizing the day” by taking chances with unorthodox color combinations and by challenging common conceptions about proportion and scale.
