1 RSC novemBER 2016

2 World Convention 36 WCNA Updates
Sign up to receive information about the 37th World Convention of NA, to be held in 2018 in Orlando, Florida, USA. You will receive updates as they are available. Information will begin to flow following WSC2016

3 Guiding Principles: The Spirit of our Traditions
We approved the Traditions Book at WSC2016 and ‘The Spirit of Our Traditions’ is now available for purchase.

4 World Board Happenings
The World Board has held its first meeting of this Conference Cycle. A Guide to World Service in NA Draft of WSC 2016 Minutes Issue Discussion Topic Questions and Workshop outlines

5 PR/FD Zonal Contact The 2016–2018 NAWS Strategic Plan includes a project focused on the relationship between Public Relations and Fellowship Development and the need for more collaboration and planning. The WB is asking Zones that are interested in participating in discussions about this to send contact information for a point person. Thank you!

6 Fellowship Intellectual Property Trust
The Conference has clearly stated that only literature written by addicts for addicts and approved through global decision making at the WSC should carry the NA name. And, in a delegated responsibility from the fellowship, NA World Services is the sole publisher and distributor of that literature. We continue to believe that members with information remain in the most advantageous position to halt copyright infringements, and we welcome opportunities to help.

7 FIPT Statement Thank you to those of you who sent in input on the draft statement related to FIPT issues. We received input from 91 people, 49 of whom were delegates. Of those 49, 22 would approve the statement as written, 16 would approve it if revised, and 11 would never approve it. Given that fewer than half of delegates responded to the survey, there does not seem to be a conscience on releasing a statement from the WSC. We will, instead, release something from the World Board that reports on the WSC discussions, decisions, and straw polls perhaps along with some historical context.

8 IDT’s Coming soon to a website near you….
We are working on finalizing the Issue Discussion Topic material for this cycle and will post session outlines and PowerPoints at when they are finalized. Topics for this cycle: Applying Our Principles to Technology Social Media: How to Use “Guiding Principles” Atmosphere of Recovery in Service Every member, inspired by the gift of recovery, experiences spiritual growth and fulfillment through service. NAWS will send an eblast when workshop and discussion questions are developed.

9 Recovery Literature Projects
We are collecting input to help shape two recovery literature projects that will be included in the project plans for consideration at WSC One is a meditation book and another is an IP on recovery and mental illness/mental health. We have posted webpages for each project with input questions online to fill out and downloadable forms you can use for your local workshops. Please spread the word to any interested addict. More voices means better literature. Mediation book page:   Mental illness/mental health IP page:

10 Service Material Projects
We are also working on a couple of “tool box” projects for service materials this cycle—one for conventions and events and another for local service tools. We know that updated service materials are long overdue, and developing a collection of tools rather than a large handbook means that we can produce more items more quickly and that they can more easily translated and adapted for local use. We will be creating a web page for each focus and will eblast a notice to all members on the NAWS Update list when the pages are posted and we have more information.

11 WSC Summary of Decisions
NAWS has uploaded and posted at a first draft summary of decisions from the Conference. We hope this makes reporting to your regions easier. If there is something we forgot to upload or if you believe you’ve spotted an error in the summary of decisions, please let us know.

12 Web Meetings If you would like to join and discuss issues and solutions in service efforts, please send your name, trusted servant position, and region and/or area to for conventions, for H&I and Inmate Step Writing committees, for PR/PI trusted servants, and for Service System. These member-driven web meetings are held every three to four months.

13 Workgroup Participation
Interested in participating in a workgroup or helping with a project in some way this cycle? NAWS will be coordinating several virtual focus and workgroups, and possibly some face- to-face workgroups this cycle. If you are interested in ‘The Future of the WSC’; ‘Service Tools’; ‘WSC Seating’ or any other projects, please let the World Board know at If you have not completed a World Pool Form, please complete one at

14 Service Pamphlets NAWS is highlighting this valuable resource for groups and members—available online here:
