Consultant Program Build around SOCIAL LEARNING Concepts
The social learning theory is based on the viewpoint that learning takes place within a social environment. It stresses the value of people learning from one another, to include such concepts as learning from observing others, imitation of observed learned skills, and then later incorporating these behaviors as part of the learners own skill set or learning style. To cultivate the cycle of teaching & learning & empowering students is our goal. Transforming them into mentors and leaders is our desired learning outcome. The program goals of this internship are to: strengthen the current student employee knowledge base to have them assist in training the newer student employees to encourage a team environment The learning outcomes of these goals are: To have student employees who are well prepared to educate, assist and support the SBU community with using the technology resources available to them. To provide experience and understanding that the student employees will be able to incorporate into the weekly work tasks. Conduct a fifteen-week semester face-to-face sessions, to include weekly workshops in class & attendance at dept. workshops, online discussions & walking tours of SINC Sites and DoIt departments. Participants are divided into teams of learning partners created automatically thru Bb This promotes a peer-to-peer team environment All will continue to work inside the department on normal work schedules plus have mentor/shadow shifts with the current Sr. Consultants Utilizing primary IT staff as facilitators and instructors within the program to show the larger team environment. The IT staff has proven expertise in the subject matter, experience teaching new technologies, and a professional interest in the outcomes of the program. Provide individual assignments, and team projects specifically designed for the groups as collaborative projects and peer-peer reflection.
