1 The Texas Revolution “Remember the Alamo”

2 On April 6th an order for Texas to comply with the emancipation proclamation or face military intervention was introduced. To circumvent the law, many colonists converted their slaves into indentured servants for life. Others simply called their slaved indentured servants without legally changing their status Mexico passes a law forbidding the sale or purchase of slaves and requiring that the children of slaves be freed when they reached fourteen. Any slave introduced into Mexico by purchase or trade would also be freed For protection, the political chief of the region grants Gonzales a small cannon. October 4 – The Mexican Constitution of 1824 establishes a federal republic.

3 Santa Anna is elected president of Mexico.
On February 23rd Santa Anna enters San Antonio. The Alamo comes under artillery fire from Mexican troops Santa Anna is elected president of Mexico. Texas Declaration of Independence is signed and the Republic of Texas is declared. The Battle of Gonzales officially begins the Texas Revolution. The Texian settlers retained their cannon;

4 Goliad Massacre: James Fannin and nearly 400 Texans are executed by order of Santa Anna.
Battle of the Alamo: the Alamo falls. Approximately Texans died. The thirteen-day siege resulted in the deaths of all of its defenders, including William Travis, Davy Crockett, and Jim Bowie. General Houston begins his retreat from Gonzales with the rest of the Texan army knowing they can’t defeat the powerful Mexican cavalry on Mexican ground. Battle of San Jacinto: Texan army under Genera; Sam Houston overwhelmingly defeats Mexican force under Santa Anna, securing Texas’ independence. Santa Anna captured.

5 The Texans force Santa Anna to acknowledge Texas as an independent nation he does so but the Mexicans have already officially striped him of power so it means nothing. Mexico acknowledged Texas's independence, with the condition that Texas would not join Mexico's aggressive northern neighbor, the United States On December 29, 1845, Texas officially became the twenty-eighth state in the Union although the formal transfer of government did not take place until February 19, 1846 For the nine years Texas remained an independent republic, recognized by many countries, but not Mexico. Texas was cultivated by England and France, who saw an independent Texas as a balance to the United States in North America.
