2 William Barret Travis Texas in early 1831, Travis obtained land from Stephen F. Austin Joined the militia commander of the gallant men that defended the Alamo in 1836 buying General Sam Houstor precious time to build and train an army to fight Santa Anna's army.

3 Alamo facts Built by the Spanish Alamo used to be called the mission San Antonio de Valero Conversion to Military Fortress Surrendered to Texan forces in 1835 Modern use

4 Armed service He branded Travis and the other partisans at Anahuac outlaws and demanded that the Texans surrender them for military trial.

5 William Travis family Barret married Rosanna Cato on August 8, 1829 His son name was Charles Edward Travis And his daughter name was Susan

6 Education Travis attended an academy in Sparta until he learned all that was taught there then Alexander Travis enrolled his nephew in a school in nearby Claiborne Alabama

8 When he die They both died of yellow fever in 1848
His body was burned along with the bodies of the other defenders of the Alamo

9 In the revolution October 1835 the Battle of Gonzales occurred signaling the start of the Texas Revolution he is said to have taken a small part in the Siege of Bexar San Antonio which occurred in November of 1835

10 Career After establishing a career in the banking and manufacturing industries Washburn entered into politics
