1 Sai Zhang (szhang98@asu.edu)
EEE 334 LAB 2017 Lab Web Site: Lab TAs: Sai Zhang

2 EEE 334 LAB Outline of the Presentation: Lab Area and Equipment
Location Description Lab Rules Lab Material Experiment Schedule and Overview TA & Lab hours TA Schedule Lab Hours of operation Experiments General Avoid Common Mistakes Lab Report Writing the Report Report Turn in Grading Distribution Questions?

3 EEE 334 LAB Location : GWC 273 TA E-mail: szhang98@asu.edu
GWC 273 Lab Manager: Clayton Javurek ) EEE 334 Grader: TBD Office Hours: Monday: 8:00 am – 9:00 pm Tuesday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 10:00 pm Friday: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

4 EEE 334 LAB Lab Area Location: GWC 273 Description:
Work stations with equipment: Oscilloscope: You need a USB memory stick to save lab work Function Generator Digital Multimeters 2 Power Supplies 1 Breadboard 1 Computer

5 EEE 334 LAB Lab Area Description Component Bin
RCL Meter: To avoid mistakes, measure all parts (Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors) Return all components back to the bin when done with experiments

6 EEE 334 LAB Important Note:
One computer per group (welcome to bring your own laptop): Use your ASURITE id and password to login. ONLY have PSpice, Excel and Matlab NOT FOR PRINTING ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN PSPICE AND EXCEL RESULTS Print lab instructions before coming to the lab Lab Rules Food or Drinks are NOT allowed at GWC 273 Sign in for headcount purposes Only one group per work station Whatever used during an experiment must be returned to its original place after use

7 EEE 334 LAB Lab Material On BLACKBOARD Experiment Schedule:
Students repeating EEE 334 must re-do all lab experiments (Department Policy) RESPECT THE LAB SCHEDULE, WORKING AHEAD OF SCHEDULE IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED, TAs prepare for lab help per the lab schedule

8 EEE 334 LAB Lab Material Overview What you need to do?
There are 6 labs in total. Lab 7, only for Honor Students choosing to do it for credit, make arrangements with Professor Labs 4 – 6 use a Ground Strap due to an electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive MOSFET chip Note 2: Ground Straps, Chips and Potentiometers will be signed out prior to lab 4 and returned after lab 6 What you need to do? Follow the lab manual: Calculated, Simulations(LTSpice) and hardware lab results A DATASHEET during the lab, record the above required results, per person – worth 20 points A Lab report per group, 3 students maximum per group

9 READ GUIDELINES IN LAB MANUAL
EEE 334 LAB Experiments General READ GUIDELINES IN LAB MANUAL Experiments should be done in groups of 3 Look for teammates today, choose wisely Same members through class duration Special Instructions for labs will be ed prior to each lab. CHECK Get datasheet signed by TA before leaving the lab area Get data sheet stamped by TA after COMPLETING an experiment If experiment is done in different lab visits, you must PROVE YOU WERE IN THE LAB doing the experiment by showing the TA’s signature and dates Note: Datasheets that are copied, or photocopied, or brought without doing lab work WILL NOT BE STAMPED

10 READ AND FOLLOW THE REPORT GUIDELINES IN THE LAB MANUAL
EEE 334 LAB Lab Report Writing the report: Note: The ability to write quality technical reports is essential for an Engineering career, thus it is highly recommended that students in groups take turns writing lab reports to learn the entire process. READ AND FOLLOW THE REPORT GUIDELINES IN THE LAB MANUAL In this course, the Report consists of: Title Page (name, Prof. name, ASU ID) Introduction (short) Main Equipment and Components used (short) Course of Action (short) Results (calculation, simulations and hardware) Results Discussion Closing Argument (conclusion) Post Lab Questions Stamped, dated and signed Datasheet Note: Other courses Report Format do no apply to this course Lab Report

11 EEE 334 LAB Lab Report Writing the report: ONLY TYPED reports allowed
No hand written nor photocopied reports Keep it clean-cut, neat and organized – so avoid wordiness, clutter and empty statements Use computer programs to draw circuits, graphs (recommend LTSPICE) NEVER Ctrl-C and Paste FIGURES, EQUATIONS OR TEXT FROM LAB MANUAL, NO CREDIT FOR THAT PUT ALL OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS IN REPORT No need to write a huge lab report Keep number of sheets per report to a minimum  less than 15 + Datasheets

12 EEE 334 LAB Lab Report Lab Report Turn In:
Drop only ON TIME reports into the yellow wooden box in the GWC 273 lab area on the due date by the time due Late Reports: Turn in late reports directly to me (GWC402) DO NOT DROP LATE REPORTS INTO BOX, YOU WILL LOSE 50% OF GRADE Late lab report penalty is -10% per day not including University Holidays Labs are mandatory, turn in the lab reports even you are late.

13 EEE 334 LAB Lab Report Grading Point Distribution Sheet:
no need to write a huge report If you Ctrl-C schematics and/or text from the LAB MANUAL this will result in 0 points awarded for this section If you do not provide a detailed answer and PSpice support where applicable, this will result in much less points awarded for this section If you do not mention ALL the main numeric RESULTS found, this will result in less points awarded for this section

14 Questions?

15 Enjoy the new semester!
