house fence grass door mirror lamp toothbrush watch soap dish book desk shoe pencil bucket telephone They are all things.

5 What do these words have in common?
happiness sadness fear anger truth justice honesty beauty pride loyalty love hate jealousy envy courage peace They are all emotions or traits (ideas).

6 What do ALL of these words have in common?
What ARE people, places, things, and ideas? NOUNS! CONCRETE NOUNS name things we can touch, taste, see, hear, feel, and smell. ABSTRACT NOUNS are things that we cannot touch, taste, see, hear, feel, and smell. They are things like emotions and character traits such and honesty or greed.

9 They are all PRONOUNS A PRONOUN is a word that takes the place of a noun. There are LOTS of different types of pronouns!

10 PRONOUNS can appear as the “subject” of a sentence (subjective case pronouns)
I read. You read. She reads. He reads. We read. They read. Who reads?

11 PRONOUNS can appear as “objects” of sentences, phrases, and clauses (objective case pronouns)
Read to me. Joan reads to you. Read to her. Read to him. Read to it. Read to us. Read to them. To whom does she read?

12 Possessive PRONOUNS show ownership (possessive case pronouns)
my book your book her book his book its book our book their book

13 There are still LOTS more types of pronouns!
Reflective pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, itself, ourselves Demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these, those Indefinite pronouns: all, any, anyone, both, either, everybody, everyone, few many most neither, nobody, none, several, some, somebody, someone Interrogative pronouns: what, which, who, whom, whose
