One fifth of the world don’t have access to a modern source of energy. This means that even basic services that we take for granted, such as lighting for reading a book, electricity to power a health centre, or being able to cook food without harmful smoke in the kitchen are out of reach for over 1 billion people.

Why have we not been able to solve this problem? This question, and the sheer scale of the challenge have been a constant motivation on my research journey.
