Comparison between different LCA methods in regard to fire protection
By Louise, Regitze and Kikki
2
Goal Identify the best fire protection system in terms of sustainability, based on a case study. Investigate different programs for preforming an LCA. Made in collaboration and based on a project by Vandkunsten Sustainability: We look at LCA and LCC as we assume other sustainability factors to be the same (social). Der er mange i branchen der skal i gang med det her (DGNB) derfor er det interessant at undersøge.

Functional unit: One building from the Lisbjerg project functioning in 50 or 120 years
The LCA Reference flow: Timber column covered with insulation Larch 27 mm Window with aluminum and pine frame Sprinkler system Larch-sprinkler system Compare two different facade systems resulting in two different ways of fire proving the system, Even tough the functional unit is one building all the things considered to be the same is left out in the reference flow because it as a comparative study. During the life time more than one of some of the given components in the reference flow is needed to last the entire life time Timber column covered with two layer resistant plaster on three sides Steel plate 0,6 mm Window with Kebony and pine frame Steel plate-plaster system

Results – comparing fire protection
EoL is separated. The results shown are the percent (deviation) of the total normalized results Steel plate – plaster system best in all impact categories except GWP End of Life scenario: Larch –sprinkler system is best in all impact categories except in GWP – because of the big negative impact from the wood?
5
Results - Life cycle cost
Construction price pr. m2 Maintenance price pr. m2 Larch – Sprinkler system kr kr Steel plate – Plaster system kr kr 50 years The Steel plate – Plaster cost less both in construction and maintenance Delkonklusion på sammenligning af brand sikrings systemer: From this and other resutls not shown it can be seen that the Steel plate – Plaster system is best

Results – Program comparison
Person equivalent PE The normalized results for the components in the two systems is shown for GWP 50 years for the three different programs. We also tried to use OpenLCA, but the results differed so much from the rest and it could only calculate for 100 years Aleksanders Program er godt nok, men viser kun GWP så er derfor ikke fyldestgørende nok – det giver ikke det fulde billede hvis man vil bruge det til at sammenligne løsninger. 10% lower – maybe some limits in entring decimals. Delkonklusion på program sammenligning: units. What are the impacts given in Steel plate – Plaster system Larch – Sprinkler system
7
To sum up The Steel plate – Plaster system is lowest in most impact categories – but not in EoL. It is also lowest in economy The programs recommended by DGNB shows the same tendencies, but the user friendliness is very different The best fire protection system is only based on one case study Both analysis are based on DGNB’s guidelines Det ville være interessant at have set på hvordan DGNB’s retningslinjer havde været i forhold til andre metoder. Sensitivity analysis
