Situation Report N. 2 – 21 April
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck 37.2 km south of Yogyakarta City on 16 April 2017 at 17:12 local time. PVMBG has issued an Alert 2, Code Yellow, warning for Mount Merapi, with the possibility of evacuation of the slopes. BATAN has declared a 2 km mandatory / 3 km voluntary evacuation zone around the PTSA reactor with the possibility of expanding the evacuation area.

On Tuesday 18 April, the President of Indonesia, declared a National Disaster emergency; Indonesia implemented its National Disaster Response Plan and activated the Indonesian National Cluster coordination system; Indonesia has accepted offers of international assistance; On 19 April, an ASEAN Emergency Rapid Assessment Team (ERAT) and a UN Disaster Assessment Coordination Team (UNDAC Team) arrived in Jakarta; On 20 April, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) also dispatched a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART)

Update from OCHA Indonesia
On 18 April the RC/HC met with Head of BNPB to reach agreement on: Tools and Services to be mobilized by the international community, including the deployment of technical teams, support with information management and mobilization of funds. Supports from international community are coordinated through MAC Centre Strategic Response Plan for 3 to 6 months. Likely support from foreign military forces: Transportation / logistics assistance to remote or inaccessible areas, Reopening of major highways damaged in the earthquake, especially from Adisupjipto and Adisumarmo airports to populated areas, Reopening of the railway line through the affected area, Repair of damage to Adisutjipto International Airport, Warehouse space near logistics hubs. HCT is mobilizing its operational team for initial rapid assessment, developing SRP, and accelerating surge from each regional offices. OCHA met with AHA Centre to align processes, including possible joint statement of SG-AHAC and ERC, and co-location of ERAT and UNDAC teams.

UNDAC Update Reception and Departure Centres (RDC) activated at the following entry points: Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, East Jakarta Adisutjipto International Airport, Depok, Sleman Regency, DIY Initial On-Site Operations Coordination Centre (OSOCC) in Surakarta City, Central Java co-located with the ASEAN Joint Operations and Coordination Center (JOCCA)

UNHAS assets available in country that can tasked following identification of needs:
Two UNHAS MI8 helicopter are in country and can be tasked with cargo ( MT cargo capacity); One AS 350 UNHAS helicopter is available for assessment missions (max 4 passengers); Four additional air assets have been earmarked and are being made available and will be operational in the coming two weeks
