My idea for the urban project was the following:
Streets and road signs People and chaos Urban architecture (abstract) What did I explore with this body of work: London rapidly changing The different lives of people By Malavika Sharma

Artist Influence Garry Winogrand is one of my artist influences. His work consists of people, roads, streets and the chaos of his city life which are very much similar to my themes. His photographs are engaging. Are realistic. About everyday lives of people.

Winogrand’s Image vs My Image
Similarities: Both images show a couple. Walking down a busy street. Both images are and look like places for shopping. Differences: One has been taken in the 20th century and the other is in the 21st century The image on the left shows a sophisticated couple who look like they are going to a function or have just come back from one. Whereas the couple on the right seem more casual in terms of their appearance. Winogrand’s image shows people of an affluent society, and my image shows a society of people of all kinds.

Hounslow East and Hounslow High street
The Four shoots Great West Road Hammersmith Hounslow East and Hounslow High street Embankment (NPG trip) Each of the four shoots have fulfilled my ideas. The reason is because the themes that I had wanted to capture have all come out the way I wanted them to. The urban architecture, roads and street signs as well people, have have been inspired by my research and various artists’ works. This is how I wanted my images to look like. My images have a very “urban” feel to them.

The Successes and Failures
The three success of my shoots: 1. I got a chance to experiment with my photographs, e.g. taking images from different angles, perspectives etc. 2. Most of my images turned out quite nice, e.g. the detail and tonality were very rich. 3. I definitely got more of an idea of the ways in which I need to set my shutter speed and aperture, and as a result, I now have an idea of how my photographs can be unique. The three failures of my shoots: 1. Some of my images came out either a bit underexposed or a little overexposed. 2. Some of the shots did not come out the way that I had wanted them to. 3. A few of my images looked slightly smeared which means that the lens of my film camera needed cleaning. I will be sure to clean my camera lens next time, before I start shooting.
