A genre is a type of text or story. It can be identified by different characteristics that are in the story.

4. Books are divided into two main categories:
Fiction and Nonfiction

5. Fiction A made up story Can tell about things that could happen
Is read for fun
Characters may be like real people or imaginary

6. Nonfiction It has facts that can be checked and proven.
The author knows all about this information.
It is read to gain information on a subject.
It is TRUE!
