Success in SQA Exams 100% attendance Perfect punctuality Impeccable behaviour Work hard in all classes Homework always done well Revision is second nature Study Planning is a priority Not distracted by outside influences. Unfortunately this adds up to a pupil walking around in the body of a 16/17 year old and the head of a middle aged man or woman Duncanrig Secondary School

What can you do? Be wise Be strong Be trusting Duncanrig Secondary School

This cannot be done by blind faith or remote control!
What can you do? Use your experience. Provide a focus for your child. Resist any urges to level down or quit. Make some decisions for him/her. Be strong and consistent. Work with us and trust us. This cannot be done by blind faith or remote control! Use your experience to analyse if things are progressing as they should. Seek counsel when you feel unsure or out of your depth educationally. Be positive with your child, show belief in his/her abilities and agree realistic targets for success in each subject. Be a part of the exam preparation process, know the key dates and key events before and during the exam schedule. Keep tabs on how he/she is spending his/her time. Do not leave him/her to get on with preparation. Do not take the path of least resistance. Do not over-reward mediocre effort. Interact regularly and meaningfully with your child in the run up to the exams. Try to avoid the temptation to nag. Be supportive in any way you can: personal help, advice, finding time for them to prepare, helping to create an environment at home that is conducive to effective study. Remember the work relaxation balance, pace not feast and famine. Part time jobs are a source of stress, as are relationships (luvved up!). You may have to intervene if the balance is not right. Use the SQA calendar and our school website for exam dates, study planning, supported study. Set realistic targets and be sensitive to changes of level. Use us, work with us, we have an awful lot of experience and are sound judges. Duncanrig Secondary School

Success in SQA Exams It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it of value and recognised by others. Duncanrig Secondary School
