2 Day 112 Objectives Analyze the political, economic and social atmosphere in the USA in the 1850s Evaluate the causes and effects of the KS-NE Act and Bleeding Kansas Analyze the platform of the Republican Party and their impact in the Election of 1856

Illinois Senator Stephen Douglas…what party? His motives? (think big) Wants to be President but Douglas is from a Northern State. He needs support from where/whom? Trans-Continental RR Believes in an important principle too… Democrat Popular Sovereignty…

5 Missouri Compromise Line says KS+NE territories must create what kinds of states?…
KS-NE Act changes that…give the territories what? Free States

6 b. Popular Sovereignty South North
KS & NE people can vote what kind of state they want to be Think Federalism… who is strengthened/ weakened? Who is  Why? Who is  South North

7 c. Effects & Reactions? What happens to 
Only gains little support! Angers some members in his own party? Who? What is the overall impact on the USA? More… Tension Division Anti-Slavery North mobilizes!!!
