Members elected every 2 years Qualifications Be 25 years old Citizen for 7 years Reside in the state they represent Representation is based on population Vacancies filled by special elections Have a Speaker and Power to Impeach

1/3 of Senate is elected every 2 years Qualifications Be 30 years old Citizen for 9 years Reside in the state they represent Vacancies filled by special elections Vice President presides over senate Tries Impeachment proceedings

Article 1, Section 4 Elections are determined by the state but can be overruled by Congress Shall assemble once a year First Monday in Dec Changed to January 3rd

Each house sets its own rules Keep a complete official record of everything said on the floor (Congressional Record) Adjournment If more than 3 days, requires other house approval

Paid by the Treasury dept. Can not be sued or prosecuted for things said in congress Can not be arrested while congress is in session Can not pass laws that will benefit them personally.
