What to Expect from Biology
Ms. Lingardo This course will be expanding upon prior scientific knowledge relating to the biological sciences. Throughout the year students will be asked to think critically through scientific investigations, readings, virtual labs, and collaborative group work. There is an end of course exam for Biology through the state of Ohio. My goal is to prepare each and every student so they feel confident for the exam while also having some fun along the way! Topics we Will Cover: Plant and Animal Cells Genetics and Heredity (DNA, RNA, Replication, Transcription, Translation, Meiosis, Mitosis, Mendelian Genetics, Biotechnology) Evolution Classifications Ecology and Ecosystems Bacteria, Invertebrates, Vertebrates, Human Body Systems, Plants

1. Materials Needed For Class
Ms. Lingardo Binder (1 or 1 ½ inch) 5 tab dividers Warm Ups Notes Worksheets Labs Current Events Looseleaf Paper Pens or pencils Colored Pencils (optional) Part of your grade each quarter will come from the collection of your binder. Make sure you keep it organized and updated!

2. Grading Policy Ms. Lingardo You should be checking your grades regularly on ProgressBook. If you have any questions regarding your grades please see me and we can discuss. Types of Assignments Formal: Chapter quizzes, unit tests, projects, labs, and semester exams Classwork: Labs, worksheets, class participation Homework: Homework and current events

3. Late Work 4. Absent Bins Ms. Lingardo
Any assignments turned in late will automatically have a grade reduced by 20%. Late work will not be accepted after an assignment has been passed back to the class. If you have a question or concern relating to turning in an assignment, please see me. 4. Absent Bins It is your responsibility to collect and turn in all work you miss when absent. There are bins located in the front of the classroom where you will find extra copies of worksheets. There is also a binder which lists the agenda for each day. Here’s how you work the bins: Figure out the date you were absent Find that section in the binder Collect any handouts in the corresponding dated file folder Students will have the number of days they were absent to turn in the assignment before it is considered late. For larger projects and tests, see me.

5. Homework and Current Events
Ms. Lingardo I do not assign a lot of regular homework. (This doesn’t mean that I never will!) Each week you will be required to do a science current event. This must be turned in by Friday every week (you can turn it in earlier! ) There is a designated form to fill out which I will give out every Monday (or you can download it from my website). The current event article must be no older than January 2017. 6. Textbooks You will each receive a copy of the Biology textbook. You can keep this copy at home or in your locker. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR BOOK! At the end of the year, you can be charged for the book for damage beyond normal wear and tear. We will have a class set of books to use in the classroom. 7. Website I have a class website ( where I will upload Google slide presentations, assignments, due dates, and important links. Make sure to check it out!

Please set something up with me at least 1 day before so I can make sure I am free to stay! 9. Cell Phones 10. Be Prepared for class
Ms. Lingardo Cell phones need to be kept away unless otherwise instructed. Consequences: 1st time – Verbal Warning 2nd time- loss of participation grade & phone kept on teacher’s desk for the remainder of the bell or will be taken down to the office. There will be times that I will allow students to listen to music while you work. HOWEVER this privilege will be revoked if cell phones are an issues in class or headphones are worn without permission. 10. Be Prepared for class If you come unprepared for class you will NOT be permitted to leave the classroom to get your things. Bring your binder every day!

If you come into class tardy you must sign in on the clipboard by the door. After you’re 3rd tardy you will have to serve a consequence. Consequences: 4th Tardy- Stay after school for 15 minutes, no more than one day after the 4th tardy. 5th Tardy- Stay after school for 20 minutes no more than one day after the 5th tardy & parent contacted. 6th Tardy- Office Referral and parent contacted 12. Leaving the Room You must sign out on the clipboard by the door and take the appropriate hall pass. 13. Bathroom The “10 Minute” rule applies. No one can leave in the first or last 10 minutes of the bell. Students will only be permitted to use the bathroom in emergencies. Make sure you make use of your time between classes!

Ms. Lingardo Homework Tonight 8/22 Take home the parent letter and get it signed. This will be your first grade of the quarter! Take home your safety contract, read it, and get it signed. We will go over it more tomorrow.
