Ted Talk Can we treat Alzheimer’s 20 years early? by Reisa Sperling

Dementia---already been years of irreversible brain demage
Mild cognitive impairment---15%(50-70%of some key nerve cells are already lost Preclinical/presymptomatic phase---just look like normal aging
6
Treatment---antibody to help the brain empty itself the amyloid(in clinical trials---doesn’t show any difference in the Alzheimer’s patients who already lost 70% of their neurons)
7
Secondary prevention AD trial
Prevent or slow the syndrome of patients 2 approaches genetic at risk age at risk Prevent or slow the syndrome of patients who already have Alzheimer’s disease beginning in their brain but don’t yet have any symptoms In order to bend the curve the speaker believes that we should go much earlier to the disease process Secondary prevention AD trial---prevent the emergence of the symptom(2 approaches---genetics,ex. Statin, Age---decreasing amyloid burden will slow downstream neurodegeneration and cognitive decline
