9 PRACTICE DAYS We will start with conditioning at school, meet at fitness center door. We move to Alpine when it opens and begin with skiing fundamentals then gate training All team members need to help with carrying gear, set up and tear down when at Alpine. Some days practice will focus on Slalom (small to medium radius turns) and some days on Giant Slalom (medium to large radius turns). We will tell you which we are doing for the following day. We will discuss race tactics, procedures, and rules prior to the start of the first race. If you don’t understand something, please ask!

10 RACE DAYS Every race the team will have responsibility for a part of the setup as listed on the schedule. Team members arrive at 3:30-3:45 to help setup and warmup. Regular season races allow 8 racers per team (SL and GS could be different). There are no forerunners this year. JV racers will go first. We do tournament style racing at AV. Tuesdays are 2 runs of Slalom and Wednesdays are 2 runs of GS. Scoring based on all 4 runs! Score against 2 different teams each week, see schedule for matchups. Parent Volunteers will be needed for gate keeping for each race. Training for these duties will be available prior to start of the races, the first week of January. We can’t run races without parent help!

12 COACHING PHILOSOPHY Follow “Coaches Code of Conduct” found on lhseagles.com Varsity will be fastest 8 skiers (SL and GS can be separate). Also taken into account will be your participation, work ethic, team support, sportsmanship. Positions 7 and 8 will be alternating spots to determine final 8 by Divisionals, and final 6 by KLAA. JV team depends on number of skiers on team. This year doing one run of slalom on Tuesday and one run of GS on Wednesday. Integrity, character building, teamwork, sportsmanship, and hard work are all important traits that will be emphasized throughout the season. Skiers will achieve varsity ranking by participating in a minimum of one varsity race and through their team participation and commitment which the coach will be tracking throughout the season.
