Discuss the following questions with your partner:
Condensing Lv4: Describe what pure/distilled water is. Lv5: Explain what condensing is and give an example. Lv6: Analyse why pure water is often used in irons. Entrance activity Discuss the following questions with your partner: What is pure water? Is tap water pure water? Is bottle water pure water? Key terms Water vapour Condensing Pure water Distilled water Salts
2
Key Word Alert! Distilled Water Distilled water is water that has had all of it’s impurities taken out of it. (Minerals, salts, etc.)

4
Key Word Alert! Condensing When a gas turn back into a liquid. This can be speeded up by cooling the gas.
5
Learning Activity 1 Try and write down 3 examples of where you will find condensing taking place. Learning Activity 2 Draw a particle diagram to show water condensing onto a cold glass window. Learning Activity 3 Attempt to explain how the particles bonding changes between gas and liquid.

Most people fill irons with normal tap water
Most people fill irons with normal tap water. Over time, their iron becomes blocked and isn’t able to produce steam. Learning Activity Level 5: Explain why you think the iron become blocked when using tap water. Level 6: Suggest an alternative and explain why it is unlikely to block up the iron.

Quick Check Level 4: Define the term soluble. What does it mean if a solution is fully saturated? A liquid turning into a gas is called_________. Level 5: Explain what happens to a solid, liquid, or gas when it is heated. Explain why salt cannot be removed by filtering. Level 6: Using the particle model, illustrate a solution containing salt and water. Then identify the solvent and solute.
