1 Table Tennis and Badminton
By Aisha Henderson

2 Thought this presentation I am going to explain the
rules and regulations Scoring systems Roles of the officials Of both table tennis and badminton.

3 Badminton Rules and regulations for badminton:
1)Badminton can be either played in doubles or singles. A singles game is played full length of the court from base line to base line. Where as doubles is played as a wide court and the back line would be counted as out. 2)At the start of each match a coin should be tossed to decide which side serves first. So that it is fair. 3) When serving in both doubles and singles the shuttle cock needs to be served diagonally across the court so from right to left and left to right. In doubles both players need to serve on each side this is decided by if the scores are odd the person on the left serves and if it is even the person on the right serves so it is fair. But if the person scores a point after serving the have the right to keep serving. Scoring systems for badminton: When serving the shuttle cock has to land in the box on the other side for it to be classed as a point if it does not land in the box it lands outside the box the point will go to the opponent and they will start with the serve. In a match the game goes up to 21 but if it is a tie and both teams are at then they keep playing. The match can go up to then the next player that scores wins the set. Also when scoring the winning person needs to win by at least two points unless they are at a score like then it is just by one point. Roles of the officials: The officials have different jobs like umpire's , service judge and line judges which all have a different job. 1)Umpires make sure that the games runs smoothly and fairly and if there is any disagreements thought the match the umpire makes the final decision. The umpire also watches out for any faults the players makes and points them out. 2)The service judge sits at waist height of the players and picks out any faults made while serving. 3)And finally the line judges make the in or out call’s they watch closely to make the decision whether the shuttle cock is in or out. Ten service judges are spaced out around the court so the decisions are accurate.

4 Table Tennis Rules and Regulations for Table Tennis:
The paddle (the racket) has to be of certain thickness the rules state that at least 85% of the blade should be from natural wood. The racket size does not matter but the bigger the racket the harder it is to use. A normal size racket is 15cm across and 25cm long to the bottom of the handle. The rubbers on the racket matter if one is red the other has to be black they cannot be the same colour. The thickness of the rubbers also matter if it is rubber bobbles pointing outwards the rubber is only aloud to be as thick as 2mm but if the rubber bobbles are facing inwards the rubber should be no thicker than 4mm. When serving the ball must the ball must come off the palm of the players hand and must be tossed up at least 6 inches before the ball can be struck and bounce of the servers side before bouncing on the opponents side. The ball should be served diagonally across to the opponent. Scoring Systems of Table Tennis: Each Match is played best 3 of 5 in each match the first player to reach 11 points wins the match. Each player must serve two points in a row then switch so the other serves thought the game but if the score reaches 10/10 each player only has one serve before they switch again until one player wins the point. In the last game each player must swap sides after either of the player reach a score of . The roles of the officials: The roles of the officials in table tennis are tournament referees, umpires and assistant umpires. 1)The tournament referees jobs differ they can be doing allsorts from stepping in for umpires arranging finals and sending out entry forms. 2)The umpires job is to make sure that the games run smoothly pick out any faults or say whether the ball is in or out. If there is only one umpire his/hers word is final. 3) The assistance umpires watch out and make decisions on edge balls the side of the table closest to them. They also have the power of a umpire to decide whether the player obstructs the ball or makes a fault.

5 Ways both sports could be improved
In both badminton and table tennis there are ways the sports could be adapted to make the sport better for others. E.G disabled people find it really hard to play both badminton and table tennis as the sports are not adapted to their needs for table tennis barriers could be put up the side of the table to allow people in wheel chairs chance to play so the ball does not bounce of the side of the table as they could not reach it. the table could also be lowered to suit them better. In badminton the rules could be changed so it makes it easier for them make the rules more understandable and simple to follow. Also the nets could be lowered and court positions could be changed.

6 Comparing and contrasting both sport’s.
In both table tennis and badminton there are umpires there jobs are fairly the same in both sports apart from in table tennis there is a assistance umpire which has the same authority as a normal umpire. The other officials for both sports are completely different but have some similarities.
