This controversy has caused many governments to adopt policies regulating the sale and marketing of alternative nicotine products. The impact of these regulations on consumer beliefs and behavior are not well understood.

Vaporized nicotine products (VNPs), of which e-cigarettes are the most common, are fast-emerging class of nicotine products that have generated much debate and controversy.
