2. PUBERTY
Puberty is a period of time when your body changes and matures, turning you from a kid into an adult.
Although everyone is different, puberty usually starts:
Girls: age 8-13
Boys: age 9-15
Hormones are special chemicals your body makes to help it do certain things — like grow up!
Girls: Estrogen
Boys: Testosterone

3. MENTAL/EMOTIONAL CHANGES
During puberty, you might feel confused or have strong emotions that you've never had before. You might feel overly sensitive or become upset easily.
Some kids lose their tempers more often and get angry with their friends or families. You also may feel anxious about how your changing body looks.
Try to remember that people usually aren't trying to hurt your feelings or upset you on purpose. It might not be your family or friends — it might be your new "puberty brain" trying to adjust.

4. SOCIAL CHANGES
You may start to socialize with different people. Your likes and dislikes might change. You might feel differently towards your family, friends, and classmates.

7. HOW TO SURVIVE PUBERTY Ask lots of questions
Give your parents a chance. Your parents may not know how to deal with you growing up.

Respect and accept your body
Talk to somebody you can trust and who you are comfortable with

8. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
The female reproductive system enables a woman to:
produce eggs (ova)
have sexual intercourse
protect and nourish the fertilized egg until it is fully developed
give birth

9. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Ovaries: 2 ovaries – produce, store, and release eggs—produce estrogen
Fallopian tubes: go from the ovaries to the uterus – “highway”
Uterus: a hollow, pear shaped organ with a muscular wall – where a fetus, or baby, grows
Cervix: the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina
Vagina: a tube that connects the uterus to the outside of the body. The entrance to the vagina is on the outside of the body.

10. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Ovulation: when an egg is released from an ovary into the fallopian tube – occurs once a month
Fertilization: when an egg and a sperm unite
Menstruation: "period" -- 2 to 7 days -- blood and tissue leave the body through the vagina
Why? Each month, blood and tissue build up in the uterus to prepare for a fertilized egg in case a woman becomes pregnant. If the egg isn't fertilized, that lining leaves the body through the vagina and the girl has her period.

11. MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Unlike the female, whose sex organs are located entirely within the pelvis, the male has reproductive organs that are both inside and outside the pelvis. The male genitals include:
the testicles
the duct system, which is made up of the epididymis and the vas deferens
the accessory glands, which include the seminal vesicles and prostate gland
the penis

12. MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Testicles or testes: 2 testicles – produce sperm—produce testosterone
Epididymis: where sperm is stored
Vas deferens: transports the sperm from the epididymis to the urethra – “highway”

13. MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Urethra: the tube that carries semen and urine out of the penis
Semen is a thick fluid that contains sperm
Seminal vesicles: secrete a thick fluid that nourishes the sperm
Prostate gland: walnut‑sized gland -- produces some of the fluid in semen

14. MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
Scrotum: hangs under the penis and contains the testicles and epididymis – regulates the temperature of the sperm
Penis: made of two parts -- the shaft (the main part) and the glans (the tip, sometimes called the head).
