Behavior Change Starting college is a major life change. Change won’t end with this semester, or when you graduate. Change will occur throughout your life. People who learn more about how to change are less stressed, have a greater sense of control, and are more effective personally, academically, and professionally. 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

3 Purpose of this Research
This research will test a new Internet program on exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. All three of those behaviors can affect your current and future health, as well as your GPA. You may also find that learning how to change is helpful in dealing with other healthy changes in the future. 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

About This Research The research is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). It involves a computer-tailored intervention developed by Pro-Change Behavior Systems, Inc., a research and development company focused on behavior change. The program is based on the Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change). The program being tested is designed specifically for college students to help them start living a healthy life now. 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

How to Participate You will get class credit for participating in the liveWell project. You will need to go through the computer program 3 times during the semester. You also need to do 9 activities from the personalized, interactive homepage that the program will create for you. 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

How to Get Credit There will be a completion certificate on your homepage to print out and hand in to your instructor by the due dates. You will need to hand this in 3 times over the course of the semester: 1st assignment: Due in class the week of September 20th 2nd assignment: Due in class the week of October 11th 3rd assignment: Due in class the week of November 1st After this semester, we will ask you to complete 2 brief surveys: One in the spring and one in the fall 2011 You’ll be paid $10 in the spring; $15 in the fall. 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

What to Expect The program will take about 20 minutes to complete the first time. Subsequent sessions will be shorter. You will be asked questions about your exercise, eating, and stress management habits. You will get personalized feedback on how to stick with your healthy behaviors and how to improve any not-so-healthy ones. Your First Session The first time you log into the liveWell program, you will need to register as a new user. You will need to provide: Your class section number address (this will be your login name, and will be used to remind you when it is time to come back) Phone number (this will be used to reach you for follow up or to ensure that you receive your payments). 6/23/2018 Pro-Change Behavior Systems

If you do not wish to participate, you will have an alternate assignment: You will be given a selection of scholarly articles about wellness; you will need to choose 3 to read.
