DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL 26 credits
To earn a distinguished level of achievement you must successfully complete the curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement, including 4 credits in science and 4 credits in mathematics to include Algebra 2.

Performance Acknowledgments
A student may earn a performance acknowledgement on their diploma and transcript for outstanding performance on any of the following: Completing at least 12 hours of college academic courses including those taken for dual credit and advanced technical credit In bilingualism and biliteracy On a college AP exam On the PSAT, ACT-PLAN, SAT or ACT For earning a nationally or internationally recognized industry certification

College Placement Test— required for Texas public colleges Now includes a Pre- Assessment Activity (PAA) Exemptions for certain SAT, ACT, PSAT scores

Apply: SAT/ACT Scores Students must arrange for the scores be sent straight from the testing company. You can request scores be sent from: SAT: ACT: If you have not taken either exam, please schedule one AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. 4 Things: Complete application for college/university Keep a copy for your records. Application fee ranges from $25.00-$75.00 (many are about $40.00) Pay Application fee to college/university Send official transcript to college/university Send SAT/ACT test scores to college/university Meet deadlines

Regular Decision, Early Action, and Early Decision
Deadlines: Pay close attention to application deadlines! Rolling Admission or Regular Decision: The vast majority of students who apply to a given institution will do so through regular decision. Early Action: Students will submit their applications before the regular deadline and will be informed of their admissions decision soon after (typically in January or February). Early Decision: Similar to Early Action, students will submit their applications before the Regular Decision deadline and receive their admissions decisions soon after. The most significant difference is that Early Decision is binding, which means that any student who applies and is admitted to a school through Early Decision is expected to enroll. Jackie

APPLY for HOUSING NOTE: Some schools Require a housing Deposit BEFORE you are admitted to the school or university.

RECOMMENDATIONS Fill out the request form, make copies, give to the person writing the recommendation. This is your time to sell yourself so brag about yourself and your accomplishments. ALLOW TIME between request and deadline. Forms available in the Counselor’s Office.

NCAA Clearinghouse Students interested in playing Division I or II sports in college MUST register on-line for the clearinghouse BEFORE recruiters can talk to students or coaches regarding students. Register at Request transcript from Mrs. Adams

Scholarship and Financial Aid
Check counselor website Sign up for Remind 101 alerts about scholarships Look at Facebook posts from counseling office about scholarships Use the internet it will be your best friend when searching for scholarships. Check with the school you are applying to. FAFSA help night is October 3rd from 5:30-7:30

APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
Go to for the application. YOU MUST FILL THIS OUT TO RECEIVE ANY FINANCIAL AID FROM ANY UNIVERSITY. The application will be available October 1, 2017 and you will use your 2016 tax information. Enrolled in BISD all of 11th and 12th grades Complete all FAFSA process by July 1st Set up and check MyTCC s. Application to TCC for admissions Lunch visit on October 3rd to help assist March 20th BISD Scholarship overview TCC application spring event 11-1 on April 5th and 6th during lunches

Scholarships See scholarship board in cafeteria for monthly scholarships! You can apply at any time – START NOW! Most of the big scholarships come from the university you attend. Remember, you can still get scholarships WHILE attending college, so you do NOT have to have all of your money up front. Most scholarship awards will be sent directly to the college – make sure they know where to send the money! Write THANK YOU NOTES! Randy

TCC Days During your senior meeting if you are interested in TCC you must sign up with your counselor to complete the interest survey. October 5th TCC will be in the library assisting with PAA(Pre-Assessment Activity) and application to TCC for students that signed up with their counselor. G-Rated ONLY Admissions, scholarship committees, employers, etc are now checking facebook/twitter, etc. Be clean and politically correct and don’t post anything to anyone you don’t want EVERYONE to see!!! It will impact your college, career and life.

RELAX!!! Don’t catch senioritis – stay healthy and do well. Check the status of your application on the college website to make sure your application is complete. Be patient…it may take 2-4 weeks for your application status to be complete. Share your college acceptance with your counselor! *Junior year gets you in, senior year keeps you in!* Jamie
